On Thursday, September 12th, a workshop will be held at Shibuya Q's with the theme "We want to create a hotel where you can stay, walk, interact with people, enjoy the town, and fall in love with the town" - TATEYA, Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture! Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, is a regional city with a population of 80,000, with a castle town from the Edo period spreading out around Nakatsu Station on the JR Nippō Main Line. It is known as the birthplace of Fukuzawa Yukichi, the founder of Keio University, but there are few tourists visiting the town, and the shopping district in front of the station is in decline. The reason why tourists and citizens do not gather in the town is that many residents think there is nothing there, and they have not unearthed and polished the local treasures or disseminated information about the town. In response to this situation, one woman stepped up with the idea of "I want to revitalize Nakatsu's town!" Kanae Nakajima was born in Nakatsu, and after graduating from Ritsumeikan University of Asia Pacific, she worked at Hoshino Resorts before returning to her hometown. Nakajima decided to open TATEYA because she wanted to create a hotel that would make people fall in love with the town. We also wanted to create a way for people to enjoy the town using the hotel as a base.

In this workshop, I would like to consider three questions with the participants.

Question 1: Which towns have you enjoyed walking around, and which towns would you like to walk around?

Question 2: What is the appeal of Machimaruki?

Question 3: What would you like to have while walking around town?

This time, we will hold a workshop at SHIBUYA QWS to generate ideas, and then with interested participants we will conduct a town walk in Nakatsu City around November to consider feasible initiatives and move on to a social experiment.
