A special event where you can experience the charm of sumo, "Gottsuan! Hikarie ~ GOT CHANCE in Shibuya! ~" will be held at the Shibuya shopping mall "Shibuya Hikarie" from May 15th to June 25th.
This event was planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Japan Sumo Association's foundation and to promote the appeal of sumo, which is becoming increasingly popular among young people and women. Shibuya is known as an area closely related to sumo, with Shibuya Hikawa Shrine, where "Konno Sumo," one of the three major sumo tournaments in the suburbs of Edo, was once held, and some sumo stables still use it as a training ground. This time, a variety of events will be held in Shibuya, where you can directly feel the power of the wrestlers, who are also known as a "moving power spot."
Experience & Photo Spot Exhibition Image
During the event, Shibuya Hikarie will host a "Shibuya Hikarie Grand Sumo Exhibition," where equipment such as the "kessho mawashi" (shoulder wraps) and "sumo rings" actually used by sumo wrestlers will be on display. There will also be a photo spot where you can try out an actual call-and-response session, bringing you one step closer to the "world of sumo."
"Grand Sumo May Tournament" Hikarie Prize Flag Display Image
The exhibits are spread out on the 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th floors, and on the 6th floor there is an experience space where visitors can actually hold and take photos of the prize flags that Hikarie provided for the May Grand Sumo Tournament.
