The annual summer event where art, publishing, printing and dialogue intersect, "Hand Saw Press Summer ZINE Festival 2025," will be held from Thursday, July 10th to Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, at Shibuya Hikarie 8th floor event space "8/COURT" and gallery space "8/CUBE."

The event is hosted by the Risograph & Open DIY studio "Hand Saw Press" (Denenchofu Honcho, Ota Ward), a studio where creators from various fields such as architecture, cooking, interior design, and design work together, with Risograph printing at its core. This event is held as a festival to open up the possibilities of ZINES and Risographs, and it grows in size and depth every year. More than 80 artists, designers, and independent publishers will gather at the venue to exhibit and sell ZINES, art books, and miscellaneous goods. Risograph printing machines and bookbinding machines will also be on display, and production experiences and workshops will be held from time to time.

A variety of talk events and workshops are planned for the duration of the event. On the first day, Thursday the 10th, there will be a talk event by Hamamatsu publishing studio "Puspus by ZING" to introduce their activities, and a discussion session by members of the "Osaka-Kansai Expo"-themed zine production project "Deconstructing the Expo."

The workshops will feature unique projects such as making chairs out of used printing paper (10th and 15th), collaboratively creating a thatched roof "paper waste roof" (11th and 12th), and even creating a poster calendar and "DIY recipe book" using risograph printing (12th). On the 11th (Friday), there is also a reading group to analyze Miyazawa Kenji's "An Outline of Farmer's Art," which will be a time to deepen the connection between art and life, and thought and expression.

Also, on the 12th (Sat), there will be a heated discussion event titled "Summer Zine Festival Rebellion" between people involved in two art book fairs held in the spring, and a talk about an international collaborative project that brings together lithography studios from Poland, Taiwan, and Japan. On the 13th (Sun), there will be a talk on the theme of bicycle travel called "RIDE / TALK / PRINT" and a dialogue on Asian book culture by Higashi-Nakano bookstore "platform3", delving into the world of zines and expression from a variety of perspectives.

On the 14th (Mon), Risograph enthusiasts will gather for the "Riso Meeting" and "Coincidental RISO Workshop," making the venue lively as a place for production and dialogue. On the final day, the 15th (Tue), the event will conclude with the "Riso Printing All-You-Can-Eat Day," where you can experience Risograph printing at a low price, and the "ZINE SWAP PARTY," a place for interaction through ZINE exchange.

This is a six-day event where you can experience the joy and depth of expression. We hope you will experience the current state of zine culture not only by reading, but also by making, talking, and interacting.
