"Fusing tradition and modernity to create a future where kimonos can be enjoyed freely" 100BANCH Experiment Report Session
An event to widely share "experiments for the future"
2025-05-01
Source: Peatix
This event will enable projects that have completed the GARAGE Program, an acceleration program that promotes projects by young leaders who will shape the next 100 years, to widely share the "experiments for the future" that they have been working on through trial and error.
There will also be a talk by a senior project leader who has expanded and grown their project after taking on the challenge of 100BANCH.
This time, Kisaburo (fourth generation Iwamoto Japanese dressmaker) from the "KISABURO KIMONO Project," a second-term student of the GARAGE Program that aims to transcend all borders, including national and gender borders, through kimono and free all people from preconceived notions, will act as navigator, and projects that have completed the GARAGE Program will report on their activities.

■ Navigator Information
Kisaburo | 4th generation Iwamoto Japanese dressmaker
As a kimono artist, I aim to transcend the borders of Japanese and Western culture and gender, and to liberate all people from preconceived notions. I research unknown cultures and history, and create works that fuse the modern with kimono as the axis. In recent years, as "Team Hyakutoku," I have been working on workshops to create Hyakutoku kimonos all over Japan, as well as collaborative work with AI.

Kisaburo moved into 100BANCH in September 2017. In order to create a culture where people can freely enjoy wearing kimonos, they have developed futuristic kimonos that combine traditional and modern elements and have exhibited at various exhibitions. Since then, they have continued to propose new expressions that transcend the borders of Japanese and Western culture and gender, with kimonos as their core.

・Wokashication: Toru Shimizu #Japanese sweets #design
"Designing opportunities to engage with Japanese sweets and exploring a future where Japanese sweets culture thrives"
This project aims to preserve and innovate Japanese sweets culture by utilizing the power of design to create opportunities to experience Japanese sweets. We will create a future where Japanese sweets are a part of everyday life and are a natural part of it!
・TinyTheater: Thorsby Cameron #theatre #performance
"Mobile Minimalist Theatre - Performances that don't limit what you can see"
This project aims to create a new theater culture through rich expression and criticism. As they move forward with their activities, they are reconsidering their concept of "not limiting what can be seen," and are working to further develop it. Keep an eye on them!
■A guidance session will also be held at the same time for those considering applying to the GARAGE Program!
A guidance session will also be held for those considering applying to the GARAGE Program on the day of the experiment presentation. The session will include an overview of 100BANCH, a Q&A session regarding applications, and a tour of the facility.
