Tech x Art Festival "DIG SHIBUYA 2025" in Shibuya, featuring public art, drone shows, and more

The tech and art event "DIG SHIBUYA 2025" will be held for four days from February 8th to 11th, 2025 in various locations around Shibuya, mainly along Shibuya Koen-dori Street.

The event is organized by the SHIBUYA CREATIVE TECH Executive Committee. The committee regards the more than 150 cultural and entertainment facilities scattered throughout Shibuya Ward as important cultural assets, and supports initiatives that utilize cutting-edge technologies such as AI, Web3, and XR. By promoting their appeal both domestically and internationally, the committee aims to revitalize culture, tourism, and industry.

Here are some highlights of the four-day event.

Giant public art piece "Pineapple Scramble"

One of the notable official programs is the public art piece "Pineapple Scramble" by artist Ryuichi Ohira. Colorful pineapple floats, created in collaboration with children from the local Jinnan Elementary School, are exhibited on Shibuya Koen-dori. On the day of the event, there will also be a live performance by rapper Tamaki ROY and a pineapple target-hitting contest, and participants can even parade around with the floats, making this an experiential art piece.

"Pac-Man Treasure Hunt" commemorating the 45th anniversary

A treasure hunt event themed on the game character "Pac-Man" will be held. The event is a collaboration between Los Angeles-based startup Flickplay and Bandai Namco Entertainment, and will be set in the streets of Shibuya using Web3 technology. During the development of the Pac-Man game, location testing was carried out in the rooftop game corner of Tokyu Bunka Kaikan (now Shibuya Hikarie), and Shibuya is considered the "birthplace of Pac-Man." The project, which commemorates the 45th anniversary of "Pac-Man," which was released in 1980, is attracting attention as a new experience using smartphones.
