The Shibuya Sake Project, which started last year, is a craft sake project using plants from the Fureai Botanical Center as ingredients. Following the great success of the first project last year, the second project is finally complete!
"Craft Sake" is a new genre of alcohol that uses sake-making techniques and adds secondary ingredients such as herbs and fruits. This second edition is a collaboration with "haccoba-Craft Sake Brewery-" in Fukushima.
After working in business development at an IT company, Sato Taisuke, the representative of haccoba, decided he wanted to start his own sake brewery, and after training at Abe Sake Brewery in Niigata, he finally launched his brewery in February 2021. He chose Odaka, a town in Fukushima Prefecture that temporarily lost its population due to evacuations following the nuclear accident, for the location of his brewery. Driven by the idea of "making sake more free," he is actively working to bring back an autonomous local culture and a culture of free sake brewing, while brewing sake that transcends genre boundaries and is a modern expression of the old doburoku culture and recipes.
Sato-san has been making a wide variety of craft sake up until now, but this time we asked him to make a craft sake made mainly from tropical fruits such as pineapple, jaboticaba, and lychee that he grew and harvested at the Fureai Botanical Center. The concept is simply "Shibuya Tropical."
What would a drink that combines Japan's traditional alcohol culture, tropical fruits, and Shibuya culture taste like?
We would like to gather together people who love alcohol, tropical fruits, and plants and celebrate by toasting the first sip of this memorable drink.
On the day, Mr. Sato will also be there and there will be a talk show where you can hear about craft sake making using fruits from Fureue. Since it will be a buffet style unveiling, we will also have snacks that go well with "Shibuya Tropical", so please look forward to this event where not only Mr. Sato but all the participants can deepen their interactions.
In addition, all participants will receive a bottle of "Shibuya Tropical" as a souvenir. The previous Craft Sake unveiling event was also sold out quickly, so if you would like to participate, please apply early!
