The Japan Manhole Cover Awards are an award that puts the spotlight on manhole covers, which are important facilities but often inconspicuous, and recognizes these wonderful covers.
New manhole covers were installed between April and the end of March in line with the fiscal year of the city or town, and covers were selected based on a set theme. Then, organizations and projects that have carried out various projects and events related to manhole covers were nominated, and various manhole lid users gave presentations, after which everyone in the venue voted.
Just as Manhole Cards were inspired by Dam Cards, we are following in the footsteps of the historic Japan Dam Awards and will be holding the first Japan Manhole Cover Awards at Tokyo Culture Culture, the holy ground of the Japan Dam Awards.
There will be three awards in this commemorative first Manhole Cover Awards.
Newcomer Award: Lids installed between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 are eligible.
Theme Award: This year's theme is "veteran lids" that have served as local infrastructure for more than 10 years since their installation.
<<Planning Award>>: This award will be given to events or projects related to manhole covers that took place between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
In addition, we will be holding a new way to enjoy manhole cards, the "Manhole Card Game." Have fun with manhole covers to your heart's content!
