TCU Shibuya PXU (Tokyo City University Shibuya PXU) will be hosting a series of events called "Shibuya Salon: Science x Journalism".
In this event, we will invite science journalists Mariko Takahashi (former Asahi Shimbun) and Yuri Aono (Visiting Editorial Writer for the Mainichi Shimbun) as navigators, and each time we will invite a guest to deliver fresh and multifaceted topics surrounding "science and society."
Following the talk and Q&A session, there will be time for informal conversation over light refreshments, so please feel free to interact with others.
Our first guest is journalist Masako Furukawa.
Mr. Furukawa is serializing a detailed report in Iwanami Shoten's "Science" magazine about the Kamiokande neutrino observation device, which led to Masatoshi Koshiba's Nobel Prize in Physics.
Why was Mr. Furukawa so deeply fascinated by "Kamiokande," the massive device built underground in the Kamioka mine in Gifu Prefecture? —Through behind-the-scenes stories from his research, we explore the progress of Japanese science and find clues to understanding the future of society.
This is content that we would like not only the general public but also high school students who are interested in science to listen to.
