The fifth guest is Shinji Yotsui, a leading Japanese permaculture designer who has uniquely pursued sustainable living, and Tsuyoshi Sato of Crook Fields (Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture), who proposes sustainable lifestyles from the perspectives of agriculture, food, and art. The moderator will be editor Yukiko Sota (editor-in-chief of Soil mag.), who planned and edited Yotsui's latest book, Earth Regenerative Lifestyle Journal (Anonymous Studio).

About the speakers

Shinji Yotsui

Permaculture designer. Representative of Soil Design Co., Ltd. After completing a master's degree in landscaping engineering at the Forest Science Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, Shinshu University, he worked in sales and research at a landscaping company, organic farming in Nagano Prefecture, and organic fertilizer companies before going independent in 2001. Around the same time, he started practicing permaculture in a 130-year-old traditional house and farmland, and began working professionally as a permaculture designer and construction instructor for the Natural Food Cafe & Organic Garden at the 2005 Aichi Expo. In 2007, he moved to Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and has been conducting a lifestyle experiment for 15 years to see how far a family, the smallest unit of society, can build a life on its own. He is a lecturer at the Permaculture Center Japan, a part-time lecturer at the Community Design Department of Tohoku University of Art and Design, and a project member of the Ministry of the Environment's "Connect and Support Forests, Villages, Rivers, and Seas Ambassadors." He has also designed and supervised the "Life Connection Project" at Crook Fields in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture, and Kazekoshi Gakuen in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. His books include "Earth Regeneration Lifestyle Record" (Anonymous Studio) and the "Earth Life Picture Book" series (Nobunkyo).

Go Sato

Sayaka Yokoyama
In charge of event planning at CIRTY. While attending the Integrative Nutrition Institute (IIN) online in New York, he encountered the idea of "Blue Zones," a study of areas around the world that are said to be healthy and long-lived. Influenced by the idea that in order to live a long and healthy life, not only food and exercise are important, but also a sense of belonging to a community and a cityscape that makes you want to walk naturally are important, he will enter the field of urban development in October 2022. After working on the renewal of Trainchi Jiyugaoka and the limited-time project "Komazawa MOAI FARM" in front of Komazawa Daigaku Station, he will participate in the management of CIRTY as a member of RGB Inc. from November 2023. He has a strong interest in people's spontaneity and involvement.

<About each business>

About CIRTY
It is a general term for an organization that is centered on a real place where people, things, and ideas related to circularity gather, and on information dissemination media. It is a coined word that combines "CIRCULAR," "CITY," "COMMUNITY," and "2030," and practices circular community activities based at Tenoha Daikanyama. We will foster a circular community from familiar experiences in everyday life.

About Soil Design
Kitchen waste is turned into compost, the soil is fertilized, and wheat seeds are planted.

They grow the grain, harvest the ripe grain, thresh it, grind it into flour, and bake bread.
It is then composted and returned to the soil.
The fun of using your hands to do a series of everyday tasks.
The procedures and methods include processes, labor, and techniques that have been cultivated through nature and people's wisdom.
It's a sense of accomplishment, and you can only realize it by using your own hands.
You will also be able to appreciate the workings of nature, our relationships with humans, and the gratitude for the existence of other living things.
There are plenty of such exciting joys hidden in our daily lives.

Soil Design has one mission.

A place that becomes richer when people live there.
Creating a "small earth" for daily life.

Not only do we live a life that does not put a burden on the natural environment,
A place where the soil, plants and animals can come to life while people live happily.
It is about creating in our daily lives the original mechanisms of the Earth, where a rich, diverse and circular environment can flourish.

If each and every household could create a small lifestyle on Earth, the dots would form lines, and the lines would form surfaces, and eventually the world would regain its original power and true abundance.

Change the world by enjoying life.

Thinking about and designing these systems is what permaculture is all about.
Soil Design's job is to propose lifestyle ideas that are more in line with traditional Japanese life and culture.

About KURKKU FIELDS
No matter where you enjoy the 30-hectare Crook Fields in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture, you can feel that everything is connected in a single circle.

The sun-soaked soil is tilled, and the vegetables and herbs grown there are brought to the dining area and bakery, where they are served on fluffy wheat dough made with natural yeast sourced from the fields, creating a delicious harmony with freshly made cheeses and charcuterie.

Wastewater is purified by bio-geofilters using the power of microorganisms and plants, and waste from activities on-site and animals' excrement become compost, which connects with other living things as resources to create a forest. And the art celebrates this miraculous cycle with intent and design, evoking a sense of the microscopic world to the cosmos.

These various fields were created in the naturally rich area of Kisarazu.
In this way, the flowers overlap one another, creating a beautiful harmony.

Come to Crookfields and experience it for yourself.
The touch of rich life.

A sustainable power that connects to the future.
