The China Festival 2025, an exchange event showcasing the latest trends in Chinese culture and the economy, will be held at the Yoyogi Park Event Square in Shibuya for two days on September 6th and 7th. The event is organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan and the Executive Committee.
The event began in 2017 as a place where people can experience China's current state through food, music, tourism, economics, and more. Last year, the event attracted approximately 180,000 visitors, creating a huge crowd. This year's theme is "Knowing and Communicating China's Current State," and there will be approximately 150 food and beverage, retail, and corporate booths.
Past events
The main stage will bring together artists active both in China and abroad. These include singer Alan, known for the theme song to the film "Red Cliff," Qian Jiu, winner of a popular Chinese audition program, and the Luoyang-based band Chenzhou Band, making their first appearance in Japan. Also appearing will be a diverse range of live performances, including singer Shang Shang, a former member of the Peking University Choir, and Seidenba Shuo, who combines media art and music.
Live performances from past events
There will also be a performance on the traditional Chinese instrument, the erhu, by Shanghai-born Weiwei Wu, who is based in Japan, captivating the audience with a wide range of repertoire, from classical to pop.
In the gourmet section, the four major Chinese cuisines (Beijing, Sichuan, Shanghai, and Fujian) will all be gathered together, with authentic Chinese dishes such as the Sichuan specialty mapo tofu. Famous liquors such as the white liquor "Fenjiu" will also be on offer, allowing you to enjoy China's 4,000-year-old food culture.
Other attractions include a "Panda House" popular with children, and a regional city exchange zone between Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. Shanghai will be represented by the video platform "bilibili" and miHoYo, the developer of the popular game "Genshin Impact." Zhejiang Province will showcase the evolving face of regional cities through traditional crafts, cutting-edge robotics, and authentic Zhejiang cuisine.
Why not take the time to experience the wide range of charms that China has to offer, from traditional Chinese culture to the latest technology?
