"Shibuya Christmas Market 2025" opens in Shibuya, bringing two markets, "European" and "Hawaiian," to the market

Miyashita Park, Yoyogi Park BE STAGE, Chatan Park

A new Christmas event, "SHIBUYA CHRISTMAS MARKET 2025," kicked off in Shibuya, Tokyo on December 1st. This first-ever event is an urban Christmas market with two different concepts, "European" and "Hawaiian," set at three venues: Miyashita Park, Chatan Park, and Yoyogi Park BE STAGE.

The event will run for 25 days from December 1st to 25th (Chatan Park will be open for three days from December 12th to 14th). Miyashita Park will host a "European Market" reminiscent of Germany, while Yoyogi Park BE STAGE will host a "Hawaiian Market" enveloped in a perpetual summer atmosphere. You can enjoy two markets with different cultures while walking around the streets of Shibuya.

A spectacular opening with a lighting ceremony and live music

After the lighting ceremony, Miyashita Park is enveloped in a mystical illumination.

There are Christmas decorations such as Christmas domes, ornaments, Santa Matryoshka dolls, and tents selling food.

On the first day, December 1st, illumination lighting ceremonies were held at Miyashita Park and Yoyogi Park. The lights were turned on with a countdown at 5pm in Miyashita Park and 5:30pm in Yoyogi Park, and the venues were filled with warm cheers. After the lights were turned on, there was a live performance by theme song artist Hirai Dai, marking a spectacular start to the event.

A German tradition evolves in Shibuya

Christmas markets are said to have originated in Germany, starting in Frankfurt in 1393. Currently, there are over 50 markets in Berlin alone, and approximately 2,500 markets across Germany. Markets that recreate a German atmosphere are gaining popularity in various parts of Japan, such as the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, but this Shibuya version is a unique combination of "Europe x Hawaii," allowing visitors to enjoy different worldviews while touring multiple locations.

"Hawaiian Market" is currently being held at Yoyogi Park BE STAGE. The entrance is designed to resemble the everlasting summer of Hawaii, with Santa holding a surfboard.

The event, which will take place at multiple venues around the city, aims to become a new seasonal feature that will add color to Shibuya's winters. There are high hopes for its future development as a "Christmas market unique to Shibuya" where you can experience different cultures and styles all at once.
