Shibuya turns into a gaming venue!? Urban festival "SHIBUYA GAMES WEEK 2026" to be held for the first time

Approximately 30 locations will participate, with the entire city of Shibuya as the stage!

SHIBUYA GAMES WEEK 2026, an urban game festival taking place throughout the city of Shibuya, will be held for 10 days from February 6th to 15th at around 30 locations, mainly in large commercial facilities in Shibuya, such as Shibuya Sakura Stage, Shibuya PARCO, and SHIBUYA STREAM Hall. The event is organized by the SHIBUYA GAMES WEEK Project, which aims to foster indie game culture and nurture the next generation of creators.

This "city walking" game festival will allow visitors to encounter a variety of games and expressions while walking around Shibuya, and will be the first attempt to redefine games as not just entertainment, but as a source of culture, communication, and creativity. Visitors will be able to experience new possibilities for games through a multi-layered experience that goes beyond just "playing" and "watching" to "feeling, thinking, connecting, creating, and gathering."

One of the core locations will be "404 Not Found," a creative hub within Shibuya Sakura Stage. During the event, the "404 Game Center" will feature award-winning works from BitSummit, Japan's largest indie game festival, as well as exhibits that combine games with art, crafts, and technology. It will also host a talk event (February 8th and 15th) titled "New Developments in Art and Games: The Trajectory of Attempts to Disrupt Play and Art." In addition, a special exhibition, "Is This a Game? Exhibition 3" (February 11th-14th), will be held, where experimental games will be displayed and playable. This hands-on experience is sure to garner attention as it challenges conventional wisdom about gaming.

From February 10th to 11th, a joint exhibition will be held at SHIBUYA STREAM Hall by "Kamigame Creator Evolution," a new generation game creator development project sponsored by NHK Enterprises, and the student contest "Game Creator Koshien." Finalists selected from approximately 430 entries will present their work and an awards ceremony will be held, making the event a stepping stone for young creators.

Additionally, Shibuya PARCO will host the "PARCO GAME CENTER," a limited-time event by PARCO's game label, offering game demos, art exhibits, merchandise sales, and more. The third floor of Shibuya Sakura Stage, Bloom Gate Zone A and B, directly connected to the JR Shibuya Station New South Exit ticket gate, will host the "Ekimae Game Park," an outdoor event where indie games and gadgets can be exhibited and experienced. Gaming culture will permeate the entire city for 10 days.

The project team includes companies and organizations from the fields of real estate, distribution, media, and production, such as Tokyu Land Corporation, Parco, NHK Enterprises, and Skeleton Crew Studio. They will work together to provide everything from development support to a venue for presentations, with the aim of spreading a new gaming culture from Shibuya to the world. Admission is free (some events will have a fee).

This will be an opportunity for game fans, as well as those who don't usually play games, to discover new expressions and talents while touring the streets of Shibuya.
