Stargazing on the rooftops of Shibuya Special event "Astronomy Classroom Above Shibuya" for children during spring break

March Special Event: "Astronomy Class in the Shibuya Sky - A Thorough Study of Orion"

As a special March event for the "ROOFTOP Astronomical Observation" astronomical observation event, an event for children during spring break, "Shibuya Sky Astronomy Class: An In-Depth Study of Orion," will be held on March 25th (Tue) and 26th (Wed) at the rooftop observation space "SHIBUYA SKY" of Shibuya Scramble Scrangle.

The special event in March will focus on Orion, a representative winter constellation, and experts will explain its origins, mythology, and the latest astronomical findings. Participants will have the opportunity to use a high-performance telescope to observe Orion's main stars, Betelgeuse and Rigel, the Orion Nebula (M42), as well as Jupiter and the Pleiades star cluster. The attraction is that, although it is an urban night sky, you can enjoy the starry sky in a special environment above the Shibuya skyscrapers. Participation is limited to 4th to 6th grade elementary school students and one parent/guardian.

The "ROOFTOP Astronomical Observation" event is held regularly at Shibuya SKY, the rooftop observation space of Shibuya Scramble, 229 meters above Shibuya, with the aim of enjoying the starry sky in urban areas. Utilizing the rooftops of Shibuya's buildings to avoid the city's light pollution, the program allows participants to observe the starry sky accompanied by a guide from an astronomical observation expert. In the past, observation events for meteor showers and lunar eclipses have also been held, attracting many participants.

Additionally, several noteworthy events are planned for the 2025 ROOFTOP Astronomical Observation, which begins next month in April. On April 16th, SHIBUYA PLANET GATE will be held, where visitors will be able to observe the glow of Jupiter and Mars through an astronomical telescope. On July 7th, there will be a TANABATA NIGHT at SHIBUYA event, where visitors will be able to view the stars Vega (in the Lyra constellation) and Altair (in the Aquila constellation), as well as the constellation Scorpio, which represents summer. In addition, a special event, MIDNIGHT SHIBUYA LUNAR ECLIPSE, will be held in September, where visitors will be able to experience a total lunar eclipse.

"ROOFTOP Astronomical Observation" allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the stars spreading across the night sky. This fascinating starry sky experience will continue in 2025.
