Sports Data Analysis x Gender Perspective: The Future of the Data-Based Body and Sports
Research seminar hosted by Jissen Women's University SGI2 (Project Research Institute)

■ Event Outline
Date and time: Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 14:30-16:30
How to participate: In person (Jissen Women's University Shibuya Campus 120th Anniversary Memorial Hall)

In recent years, attention has been focused on "gendered innovation," which seeks to create new discoveries and value by analyzing the intersectionality between biological sex, social and cultural gender, and various other attributes, without falling into the trap of binary male-female stereotypes. Jissen Women's University has also launched the Social & Gendered Innovations Institute (SGI2) as a new project research institute (2025-2027) to work on developing methods for intersectional analysis and participatory approaches aimed at social change.

In the first year, we will hold a series of workshops centered around the areas of expertise and interest of the institute members, where we will engage in frank discussions on intersectionality and gender differences, and on the nature and application of analysis, in order to explore the seeds of new social design and co-creation.

The first session will focus on the area of expertise of SGI2 member Professor Kazuki Imada, "sports data analysis," and will feature Professor Kazuyuki Koizumi, a sports data scientist, and Professor Atsuhisa Yamamoto, a sports sociology expert, to discuss the possibilities and challenges of "sports data analysis x gender perspective," as well as the future of the digitized body and sports.

Modern sports, which have developed primarily among men, are areas in which the binary distinction between men and women is more clearly visible. We will explore the possibilities that advances in data science offer for sports data analysis, and consider with our panelists the future direction of gender and intersectionality analysis in sports, given the overwhelming bias in existing data on gender and other factors.
