The extremely hot summer is coming to an end.

For home gardeners, the long-awaited sowing season has arrived.

Therefore, following the spring, we will be holding the "Growing Edition" of the popular event "Harvest Shibuya Arugula Grown in Shibuya's Fields, Make and Taste Delicious Sandwiches on the Spot!" again this fall.

First of all, I'm sure there are many of you who are wondering, "Hmm? What is Shibuya Rucola?" so let me explain.
First of all, vegetables that have been self-seeded for three generations in the same land are called fixed varieties. For example, if you think of vegetables named after a place, such as Nerima radish, you may understand what I mean. In other words, this "Shibuya Arugula" is arugula that has been sown, grown, flowered, and harvested at River Street Farm in Shibuya for several years.

To enjoy plenty of delicious "Shibuya Arugula", you first need to prepare the soil in your field (or planter) properly and sow the seeds properly.

Another reason why River Street Farm is able to grow such delicious arugula is that they are particular about the soil. In order to make the soil, they need high-quality compost that is full of active microorganisms, and this compost is actually made from food waste from our own daily lives.

Some of you may have seen this bag-type compost before, but we create soil using compost stored in community compost boxes set up in collaboration with LOCAL FOOD CYCLING (LFC), the organization that planned and developed this bag-type compost box.

This time, the course will be held in two parts, with the farm director, Ogura, in charge of how to sow seeds, and LFC representative, Taira, in charge of composting and soil preparation.

In addition, although participation is free, if you purchase the "Arugula Seed Sowing Set (seeds, soil, and planter set, 1,000 yen)" at the shop on the first floor, you can use that set to participate in the practical course, and you will be able to grow delicious Shibuya arugula in the comfort of your own home.

This two-hour program is packed with all the charm and know-how of home gardening, including knowledge of soil preparation, growing methods, seed distribution, and more, all of which are necessary for home gardening.
This is a great course for anyone who wants to start composting.

This is a course that anyone can enjoy, from children to adults, so come and experience the joys of home gardening here in Shibuya.

We will also be talking to those who participate in this workshop about our new project, the "Shibuya Rucola Project." This is a very exciting project that has involved many ideas and discussions between our staff, so please look forward to it!
