Shibuya's new immersive art experience "Grand Palais Immersive: Eternal Mucha"

Organized by Bunkamura

An immersive exhibition of Alphonse Mucha, tentatively titled "Grand Palais Immersive: Eternal Mucha," will be held at Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall (9th floor) from December 3, 2024 to January 19, 2025. The exhibition is a Japanese adaptation of "Eternal Mucha," which was held in Paris in 2023, in collaboration with the Grand Palais Immersive in Paris and the Mucha Foundation in the Czech Republic, by Bunkamura.

Czech-born Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) was famous as a representative painter of Art Nouveau. His designs, incorporating characteristic curves and female figures, revolutionized poster art and continue to influence many artists today. In his later years, he devoted himself to the production of "The Slav Epic," whose scale and ideas continue to move people's hearts.

The exhibition depicts Mucha's life and work in a three-act immersive art experience. The first act recreates Mucha's poster work, which was successful in Paris, from his youth in his hometown of Moravia (now the Czech Republic), in a large space. The second act focuses on the 1900 Paris World's Fair and explores Mucha's feelings for his homeland and his wish for peace. The third act explores the background to how Mucha's artistic message became a symbol of world peace through the series of "The Slav Epic," considered the culmination of his work.

Grand Palais Immersive is a subsidiary of the French National Museums Union established in 2022 that specializes in digital exhibitions. It offers innovative art experiences that make full use of audiovisual and interactivity, and regularly hosts immersive exhibitions at a dedicated venue in Paris. This exhibition will allow visitors to experience the charm of Mucha's works in an unprecedented way through high-resolution projections and interactive experiences.

This will surely be a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in Mucha's timeless art and experience its message.
