▼ Overview
The "OMNI Project" is a citizen-participation approach to solving the problem of marine litter. At this event, researchers from the DLX Design Lab at the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo, will look back on the five-year initiative, which has been carried out in three municipalities across the country, as part of the DLX Design Academy's Inspire Talk series.
We will introduce actual examples of how design has contributed to the conservation of the marine environment by involving government officials, scientists, local businesses, and citizens, through concrete examples such as workshops, the development of litter-picking products, and the production of visual guidelines.
They will also discuss the role of design as a catalyst and the potential of citizen-participatory scientific research (citizen science), and share new approaches to connecting government and citizens toward the realization of the SDGs, as well as the findings and future prospects gained from five years of practice.
