The annual summer "Shibuya Bon Odori" festival will be held on August 2nd. Traffic restrictions will be put into place in front of the station, and more than 60,000 people are expected to attend.

An international Bon Odori dance unique to Shibuya

Shibuya's summer tradition, the "Shibuya Bon Odori" will be held on August 2, 2025 at the SHIBUYA109 event space and the surrounding roads (Dogenzaka, Bunkamura-dori). The event is organized by the Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping District Promotion Association.

The event, which began in 2017 with the aim of "creating a place for interaction between people who live in Shibuya and those who visit Shibuya," will be held for the sixth time this year. Last year, about 60,000 people attended, including foreign tourists, making it the most popular event ever. This international Bon Odori dance, unique to Shibuya, is gaining more attention every year.

On the day of the event, traffic will be restricted from SHIBUYA109 to Dogenzaka and Bunkamura-dori, and the roads in front of Shibuya Station will be transformed into a large-scale Bon Odori festival venue. Participants in yukata robes dance in a circle around a tower to classic songs such as "Tokyo Ondo" and "Tankobushi," as well as original songs such as "Shibuya Ondo" and "Yumemiru Shibuya Ondo." Walk-ins are also welcome, and the event brings together local residents, shoppers, and foreign tourists across generations and nationalities, creating a sense of the diversity that is so characteristic of Shibuya.

Food trucks, snack booths, and festival stalls will be lined up around the venue, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional summer festival with activities such as shooting galleries and scooping super balls.

The event is scheduled to take place from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, August 2nd. Traffic restrictions will be in place from 4:30 pm to 10:30 pm on the same day, and the west side of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing in front of Shibuya Station, Dogenzaka, and Bunkamura-dori will become pedestrian-only roads. Please note that the event may be canceled in the event of bad weather.
