Future Welfare Facility Architecture Meeting - Forum -
A place for learning and interaction between welfare workers and architects
2024-06-06
Source: Peatix
In recent years, with the changing social background of a declining birthrate and aging population, respect for diversity, and weakening of communities, social welfare facilities are being asked to play a role as a base in the community by becoming more multifunctional and by actively contributing to the community. On the other hand, the number of cases of abuse in facilities is increasing year by year, and it is also a major issue that they have not been able to break away from the closed image from society and the community.
In light of this, the Nippon Foundation has been conducting the "Nippon Foundation Future Welfare Facility Construction Project" (open call for grant applications) since fiscal 2021.
This event will be held to provide a forum for welfare businesses and architectural designers to gather, connect, and learn, to raise awareness of changing the image of closed welfare facilities through architectural design, to create new initiatives, and to raise awareness of the importance of architectural design in care. At the venue, there will be a panel exhibition by architects and a networking event for all participants. Enjoy discovering new ideas and meeting new people.

Panel Discussion 1: "The process towards a welfare facility that contributes to the community"
What will the future of welfare be like, one that is rooted in and contributes to the community? And what about the design of the welfare facilities that will serve as its base? The key to creating good spaces and environments is the process in which welfare experts and architectural experts think, discuss, and collaborate together to create a structure. How can we build better collaborative relationships and make projects successful? In this issue, we will look at the plans of Medical Corporation Ioji-kai and hear about the method and significance of this.
【guest】
Kentaro Ataka (Architect/CEO of Patrac Inc.)
Dai Shiga (Nurse/Public Health Nurse/Co-President of Medical Corporation Ioji-kai)
Takumi Otani (Head of Regional Future Planning Office, Medical Corporation Ioji-kai / Nurse / Representative of Welfare and Architecture)
[Facilitator]
Takuya Oikawa (Chief producer/Lab director, Magazine House Co., Ltd.)
Panel Discussion 2: "Designing spaces that protect and open"
As the idea of "opening up to the community" for welfare facilities is debated, what perspective should be taken in running an organization and incorporating it into environmental design in cases where residents have severe disabilities, a high level of care needs, or other sensitive aspects? Learn about how to "open up" and "protect" in such cases through practical examples and ideas.
【guest】
Machiko Ochi (General Manager of the Social Welfare Corporation Kokoromiru-kai / Farm Manager of Coco Farm & Winery Ltd.)
Midori Kubota (Chairman of the Board, NPO Creative Support Lets)
[Facilitator]

Panel Discussion 3: "How to Realize Welfare Facilities for the Future"
The Nippon Foundation's new grant program, "The Nippon Foundation Future Welfare Facility Construction Project," which began in 2021, received many passionate applications aimed at future welfare and society, and the review process sparked serious, passionate discussions about what future welfare facilities should be like. Now in its fourth year, the review committee will talk about the project's achievements and challenges so far, as well as expectations for the future.
