Shibuya Zunchaka, a citizen-participation festival: a "music liberation zone" where everyone can play a leading role, will be held throughout the city of Shibuya

116 artists selected from public entries will perform live

The 11th Shibuya Zunchaka! citizen music festival will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, throughout the city of Shibuya, including Shibuya Center Gai, Miyashita Park, Cat Street, and Shibuya Sakura Stage.

The music festival, which began in 2015, has established itself as a festival that utilizes the stage composition that makes the most of the space of Shibuya, a city where diverse cultures such as music and fashion intersect, and is handmade by local volunteers. With the catchphrase "One-day Music Liberation Zone," this year marks the 11th time the event has been held as an event where anyone can freely enjoy music and connect with others.

This time, 116 artists selected from a public audition will perform on the "Machinaka Stage" set up in 12 locations in Shibuya. There will be no main stage, and instead, stages will be set up all over the city, allowing the sound to naturally fill the area, transforming the town of Shibuya itself into a musical stage. You can enjoy seeing everyday scenes transformed by music, such as the entrance to Center Street, Miyashita Park, in front of the Udagawa Police Box, and Cat Street in the Harajuku area.

What's noteworthy is the wide variety of events that go beyond performances. There are many experiential workshops that even people who are not familiar with music can easily participate in. For example, at Cat Street, there will be an event called "Music Bookshelf," where you can choose a song as if opening a book and discover new music. At Miyashita Park, visitors will be greeted with unique programs such as "Comparing Sounds," where you can enjoy a musical experience with records, cassettes, etc., and "Music Diagnosis," where you can answer questions to find out your musical type.

In addition, members studying abroad in Ireland are planning to invite local artists to broadcast Celtic music. This cross-border musical exchange is likely to further expand the cultural possibilities of the city of Shibuya.

The customary event will close with "It's the Finale! Everyone Gather!!" at Miyashita Park's Lawn Square from 5pm. It is a large ensemble competition that anyone can participate in, even if they can't play an instrument or are not good at singing or dancing. It will be a finale where all participants can enjoy music in their own style and experience a sense of unity spreading under the Shibuya sky.

The event, which is sponsored by Shibuya Ward, which has the slogan "A city that turns differences into strengths," can be seen as a testing ground for civic culture that symbolizes the "now" and "future" of Shibuya, where urban redevelopment is underway. It will be a day not to be missed as a festival that connects the "city" and "people" through the common language of music, while respecting individuality and diversity.

The event will be held from 11:00 to 18:00.
