A special screening event, "ROOFTOP "LIVE" THEATER," part of the latest video art festival, "Image Forum Festival 2025," will be held from October 3rd to 4th at SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE 's rooftop observation facility, "SHIBUYA SKY."

The Image Forum Festival, which began in 1987, is Japan's largest video art festival and is now in its 39th year. While it brings together experimental films and art works from around the world, it has also served as a stepping stone for young artists. Since 2020, in collaboration with the observation facility SHIBUYA SKY, it has been hosting special screening events where you can experience films alongside the night view in an open-air space 229 meters above ground.

The four films being screened this time are the French masterpiece "Fantastic Planet" (1973), which won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival; the Spanish film "Robot Dreams" (2023), which depicts the friendship between a dog named "Dog" and a robot; the timeless masterpiece "Night on the Galactic Railroad" (1985) by director Gisaburo Sugii; and the Belgian-French co-production "Scirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds" (2023), which has garnered attention for its fantastical visual beauty. Animations from different countries, eras and expressive techniques will come together to create a new cinematic experience in the outdoor space directly above Shibuya Station.

Before the screening, there will be a talk show featuring experts and critics. They will delve into the background and expressive techniques of the films, providing audiences with new perspectives. By attending the screening under the night sky with a deeper understanding, you will be able to have a special experience that is different from watching it in a cinema or streaming.

The event will be held on Friday, October 3rd, Saturday, October 4th, Friday, October 10th, and Saturday, October 11th. To participate, you will need a SHIBUYA SKY admission ticket or annual pass, and for the talk show you will need to purchase a separate special ticket in advance. More details will be announced on the special website.

For four days, the Shibuya night sky and animation from around the world will resonate together. A special experience awaits, where the scenery from the rooftop blends with the story.
