Opening from three talks,
An attitude towards manufacturing that is unique to the region.
The 37th special exhibition at d47 MUSEUM, "47 Engimono Exhibition," is an exhibition that allows visitors to experience the unique characteristics of each of the 47 prefectures through the lucky charms and their makers. Born from the local climate and lifestyle and passed down through generations, these lucky charms strongly reflect the local customs and craftsmanship of their makers. This event will explore the specific efforts and perspectives of practitioners from each region to find clues for connecting local craftsmanship to the future.
How do unique craftspeople capture and communicate the charms rooted in their local areas? Come join us as we think together about the future of local craftsmanship.

Ayako Kasai | CASAICO
He graduated from the Graduate School of Tohoku University of Art and Design (Graduate School of Art and Engineering, Crafts Course, Lacquerware) in 2004 and opened "Urushi Studio S" the same year. In 2011, he opened the gallery and lacquerware workshop "CASAICO" in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, where he engages in a wide range of activities, including planning craft and art exhibitions, manufacturing and repairing lacquerware, and holding lacquerware classes. Driven by his desire to promote the charms of Aomori from the perspective of an immigrant, he implemented an upcycling project utilizing waste materials from the Hirosaki Neputa Festival. He also serves as director of KABA, a brand of Aomori's traditional craft "Tsugaru Lacquerware," and was involved in the launch of the young artisan group "Tsugaru Urushi Ren," contributing to the preservation and development of local crafts. In 2024, CASAICO will reopen as a place to "see, encounter, experience, and nurture" Tsugaru Lacquerware. He continues to create a base that connects tradition with modern sensibilities.
Yusuke Mizuno | Seto Hongyo Kiln
He was born into a pottery family that has been in business since the Edo period. He has inherited the name "Mizuno Hanjiro" for generations. When the sixth generation Hanjiro (his grandfather) was the head of the family, Bernard Leach, Hamada Shoji, Kawai Kanjiro, and Serizawa Keisuke visited the kiln and were impressed by the "Mingei" (folk art) advocated by Yanagi Soetsu, which became the guiding principle for Seto Hongyo Kiln. He continues to work hard every day under his father, the seventh generation Hanjiro, based on the spirit of Mingei, and believes that working with a calm attitude is a step towards connecting to future generations.
