2026-01-14
DIG SHIBUYA 2026, the annual urban event that combines technology and art, will be held for three days from February 13th to 15th in the area around Shibuya Koen-dori.
This year's theme is "Updating the Five Senses," and a variety of programs will be held throughout the city, including drone shows, interactive works, projection mapping, a futuristic music festival, and an AI literature experience.
A drone show that lights up the night sky on Valentine's Day

Last year, he held a show in collaboration with Tetsuya Komuro and drones, which attracted a lot of attention.
One of the highlights will be the drone show "Earthshot," which will light up the Shibuya night sky. The drone show will be produced by "Red Cliff," which also held a drone show on the closing day of the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Countless drones will soar into the sky above Yoyogi Park, creating a light art performance. This will be an updated version of last year's popular production, with a single 15-20 minute show to be held after sunset. The show may be cancelled due to weather conditions.
Digital art you can experience in the city

"Duetti," a work by Canadian art and design studio Daily tous les jours. What kind of chemical reaction will this light and sound installation bring to the streets of Shibuya?
The Canadian art studio "Daily tous les jours" will be showcasing a participatory digital installation called "Hello! Duetti" on the crossing deck of National Route 246. Sounds are generated in response to the swaying benches and steps, allowing strangers to experience impromptu duets. The long-term exhibition will run from January 23rd to February 27th.
Additionally, Shibuya PARCO will host a projection mapping event called "SCREENS CONTEXTUALIZED" by video artist Toshiki Okamoto. Light and images will be projected onto the walls of the PARCO building, transforming the texture and space, adding a new layer to the Shibuya nightscape. The event is scheduled to run from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on February 14th.

This tour is an appreciation tour of "Dialogue Electronica." No prior knowledge of art or technology is necessary. Anyone can participate, regardless of age or gender.
"Dialogue Electronica," a tour that allows you to appreciate art through dialogue, will be held on the mornings of February 13th and 14th (from 10:30 am). It will be a workshop-style program that will take you around works by NHK Technologies, Water City Project, and others, and allow you to share different perspectives. Advance registration is required, and there is a limit of 14 people per session (the meeting place is the 2nd meeting room on the 2nd floor of the Labor Welfare Hall).
Late at night, the annual event "Shibuya Crossing Night Art" will be held, with four screens at the scramble intersection working together to create a one-hour art exhibition. The exhibition will be screened from midnight to 1:00 am on February 13th and 14th.

"Kokoko Denwa," a new type of communication telephone that also uses the sense of touch (sponsored by NTT East Japan). This was an exhibition that became a hot topic at last year's World Expo.
Additionally, SHIBUYA STREAM Hall will be showcasing a new form of communication called "Kokoko Denwa," a tactile communication experience. By communicating vibrations in addition to voice, participants can experience the feeling of "sharing the same space" even from a distance. The experience will be available from 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the 13th.

The day when the road becomes a theater is "DIG SHIBUYA THEATRON" by ALTEMY. On February 14th from 1pm to 5pm, Koen-dori will be transformed into an "outdoor urban theater = THEATRON" for one day only. People walking through the city will become spectators and be able to enjoy a 360-degree view of the performances and exhibitions, transforming "the whole city into a stage." Music produced by Shuta Hasunuma
Other official programs include "DIG SHIBUYA THEATRON," which will transform Shibuya Koen-dori into a theater for one day only; "SCREENS CONTEXTUALIZED," which will turn screens around the city into art museums; a project to "co-write a novel using voice" with AI; "RADIO SAKAMOTO Uday," which will carry on the spirit of Ryuichi Sakamoto; and "Opening Event," an event to interact with artists and startups. Five large-scale projects will be carried out, allowing for a multi-layered experience of technology and art.
Participation in the event is free (some programs require a fee). During the event, the streets of Shibuya will be transformed into a huge interactive space where you can experience cutting-edge expressions such as art, music, video, and AI.
