Shibuya Station to undergo a major transformation on July 21st! New commuter route starting from JR Shinminami ticket gate [Part 2: Info Tower direction]

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the JR Shibuya Station New South Exit Station Building will move from its current location near Ebisu to a location about 250 meters north (towards Harajuku) along Route 246, facing the north free passageway connecting Shibuya Sakura Stage and SHIBUYA STREAM. This will make it easier to access Sakuragaoka-cho and Nanpeidai from Shibuya Station without having to cross Route 246, significantly changing the commuter route. Following on from our "Part 1" article introducing the new commuter route, this time we will introduce how to get from the JR New South ticket gate to the offices in the direction of Info Tower.

Previously, to get to Infostar, one had to go from the west exit of JR Shibuya Station, climb the stairs of the west exit footbridge, cross National Route 246, go up the slope "Sakurazaka" in Sakuragaokacho to the top, and turn left onto the street where Shibuya Ward General Center Owada is located (Ward Road 448). This route has many ups and downs, and especially in the summer, just commuting to work would have left you drenched in sweat in the morning.

On the commute route, you can reach the Infostar on a flat road without feeling any barriers on the national highway or any elevation changes in the valley, while maintaining a "third-floor level" height from the JR Shinminami ticket gate. It's a dream-like "super easy commute route." Please make use of this route from July 21st onwards.

New commuter route to Info Tower (blue lines ① to ⑨)

① After exiting the JR Shibuya Station "Shin Minami ticket gates" that connect to the north free passage, turn right (towards Shibuya Sakura Stage). By the way, if you are heading towards SHIBUYA STREAM, turn left. ② Once you enter the Shibuya Sakura Stage facility, turn left immediately.

③ Continue straight along the JR line for about 150 meters. ④You will see "Shibu S", the symbol of the Shibuya Sakura Stage Plaza "Nigiyaka STAGE".

⑤ Turn right just before the landmark "Shibu S". If you go straight, you can go towards Uguisudani-cho and Daikanyama. ⑥ Turn right and go through the square.

⑦Go straight down the passage next to Yamaha and you will see the Sakura Tower tunnel. Continue straight through the tunnel of light.

⑧ Once you leave the tunnel, you'll arrive at the beautiful Hagukumi Stage park, which is covered in fresh greenery. If you have time, it's a great place to spend your mornings drinking coffee. ⑨ Once you leave the park, look up to the right and you'll see the Info Tower!

You'll be amazed to find that you can reach this point without having to climb any slopes. We highly recommend using this route from July 21st onwards.
