"Africa Heritage Fest" to be held at Yoyogi Park: Experience different cultures through music, food, and a parade.

The "African Parade" will also feature people walking around the venue to the sound of djembes and drums.

The Africa Heritage Festival 2026, an international exchange festival where you can enjoy the culture, music, food, and art of various countries around the world, primarily Africa, with all your senses, will be held on June 20th and 21st at the Yoyogi Park Event Plaza and Outdoor Stage.

The venue will feature live music stages, a food area offering cuisine from various countries, a bazaar selling ethnic goods, fashion items, and accessories, and workshops for parents and children.

A market filled with fashion items, general goods, and accessories. It offers a chance to experience the charm of a different culture, much like walking through an African market.

The food area will feature stalls offering cuisine from various African countries, including spiced meat dishes, stews, and street food. You can enjoy authentic flavors by trying traditional dishes and sweets such as Jollof rice (a West African rice dish), Fataya, Yassa, and Kebabs.

Scenes from past outdoor events

The outdoor stage will feature artists from Africa and other countries. They will perform traditional music, dance, and live music, transforming the venue into an exotic and exciting space that transcends nationality and age.

Suitable for all ages, from children to adults! Djembe playing experience

The event will also feature a variety of hands-on activities. These include making accessories using African beads, trying out the African drum "djembe," and a coloring workshop featuring "Tingatinga," a contemporary art form originating in Tanzania, offering something for everyone from children to adults.

An African parade where everyone dances and marches along joyfully.

Starting at 2 PM on the 21st, the event's highlight, the "African Parade," will take place. Dancers, musicians, and participants in traditional costumes will parade through the venue to the rhythms of djembe and African drums. Visitors are free to join in with clapping and dancing, creating a lively and unified atmosphere throughout the venue.

Tony Justice, head of the Africa Heritage Committee, which is organizing the event, said, "Culture, music, food, and human connections have the power to move people's hearts, transcending language and national borders. We want to provide many people with an opportunity to connect with the world in Yoyogi Park, a place with a rich international atmosphere."

A portion of the event's proceeds will be used to support "Novinye Children's Cafeteria and Children's Terakoya" and food pantry activities that help children in Japan and Africa.

The event will be held from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on the 20th and from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM on the 21st. Admission is free (some workshops are subject to a fee). The event will be held rain or shine.
