The 7th Shibuya Bon Odori Festival, a summer tradition in Shibuya, will be held on August 8th at the SHIBUYA109 event space and surrounding streets (Dogenzaka, Bunkamura-dori). The event is organized by the Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping Street Promotion Association.

This event, which began in 2017, is themed around "creating a place for interaction between the people of Shibuya and those who come to Shibuya." Parts of Bunkamura Street and Dogenzaka are closed to traffic, and the roads in front of Shibuya Station are opened up as a large-scale Bon Odori (traditional Japanese dance festival) venue. Local residents, shoppers, and foreign tourists come together, transcending generations and nationalities, to enjoy a unique Shibuya-style Bon Odori.

A tower (yagura) is set up at the Dogenzaka-shita intersection, which is the area for the Bon Odori dance. Participants form a large circle around the tower and dance to classic songs such as "Tokyo Ondo," "Dai Tokyo Ondo," "Kawachi Otoko Bushi," and "Tanko Bushi."

The venue will also play original songs related to Shibuya, such as "Shibuya Ondo," "Olympic Shibuya Ondo," and "Dreaming Shibuya Ondo." Held on the street in front of SHIBUYA109, a symbolic location in Shibuya, this event, which allows people to experience traditional Japanese Bon Odori dancing, is attracting attention from foreign tourists as well.

A main stage will be set up in front of SHIBUYA109. Along Bunkamura Street, there will be festival tents offering games such as shooting galleries and super ball scooping, as well as food and drink areas and food trucks. Food and drink areas and food trucks will also be set up on Dogenzaka, creating the atmosphere of a traditional summer festival.

The Bon Odori festival is scheduled to take place from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. In conjunction with the festival, vehicle traffic will be restricted on Dogenzaka Street and Bunkamura Street from approximately 4:30 PM to 10:30 PM on the same day. The festival may be cancelled in case of severe weather.
