"Anything Can Be Made into Clothes" Exhibition at Shibuya Hikarie: Perler beads and candy wrappers used as costumes.
Costume designer Natsuko Shiokawa's first solo exhibition
2026-08-05
The "Anything Can Be Made into Clothes" exhibition, which showcases costume creations made from everyday materials such as mirrors and candy packaging, opened on August 5th at the "8/CUBE" gallery space on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie.
The exhibition is being curated by costume designer Natsuko Shiokawa. Shiokawa, who has experience creating idol costumes, will be exhibiting works she has created as part of her SNS project "The Person Who Turns Anything into Clothes," in which she transforms materials not normally used in clothing into garments. This will be Shiokawa's first exhibition.

From 2020 to 2023, Shiokawa worked as a freelance idol costume designer. In 2023, she also started making costumes as a hobby, and gained attention when she posted clothes made using mirrors on social media. From 2024, she has been focusing on promoting herself as "the person who turns anything into clothes," and has been releasing her work mainly on X and TikTok.

The work is characterized by its ability to transform seemingly unsuitable materials into highly refined costumes by utilizing their shape, color, and texture. You can see the three-dimensionality and intricate details, which are difficult to convey in photos and videos on social media, up close.
Ms. Shiokawa has previously worked on display production for the Uniqlo Harajuku store, costumes for TBS's character "Wakuti" dance campaign, and collaboration projects with Meiji and Cainz. She has also expanded her activities to include costume design for confectionery manufacturers and artists.

「みんなの布で、1着の服をつくる」リアルタイム制作を実施中
The venue will feature an exhibition of costumes that visitors can try on, as well as a live event where Ms. Shiokawa will create "one garment" in real time during the event period using fabrics and old clothes brought in by visitors.
Opening hours are 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM (until 7:00 PM on the last day). Admission is free. Until August 11th.
