What is Hebocon?
Hebocon is an event where people with no technical skills bring their self-proclaimed robots (essentially junk) that they've haphazardly built and have them quickly compete in sumo wrestling before they break down.

The phrase "hurry before it breaks" is not an exaggeration; in fact, many robots break before they even make it to the venue. At Hebocon, robots are like perishable goods where freshness is paramount.

In many ways, it's like the opposite of Robocon (a robotics competition).

Hebocon introductory video

Despite being such a low-level competition, we unexpectedly celebrated our 10th anniversary the year before last. This year marks our 12th year. While the Chinese zodiac cycle has completed a full rotation and returned to its starting point, our technology has made no progress whatsoever, and we're just going around in circles in the same place.

A retrospective video showing the progress over the past 10 years.

Figuratively speaking, we're not making any progress, and in reality, robots often can't move in a straight line and just veer off course.

However, appreciating that very elegance and taking the time to appreciate it is the true charm of Hebocon.

High Technology Penalty
Another important rule in Hebocon is the high-technology penalty. Machines that are too technologically advanced are subject to penalties. There are several reasons why a machine might be deemed advanced, including remote control (such as remote operation) and artificial intelligence (not limited to so-called AI, but also including automatic operation using sensors and timers).
In addition, it is anything that the organizers deem to be of a high level or higher.

However, there is an exception to this rule: using the functions of a commercially available product as is will not result in a penalty (e.g., commercially available radio-controlled cars; the technology used is not the participant's own skill, but rather technology purchased with money).
Even if you implemented the feature yourself, you won't be penalized if it's not working properly.
If you're unsure whether you qualify, please check beforehand via Facebook group, Discord, etc.

The 32 robots that will appear on the day are the ones that survived a tough qualifying round (a lottery using the RAND function in Excel) purely by luck.

Having already lacked technical skills and exhausted all my luck, all I have left is the mindset of "maybe I can win if my opponent is weak."

Please take a look at this low-level battle.

《To our sponsors》
Hebocon 2026 is being held thanks to the sponsorship of the following individuals and organizations.

Gold Sponsor

We'll be supporting you again this year with our adhesives! This is Cemedyne, the adhesive manufacturer!
Shouldn't we securely glue that fragile-looking robot in place?
We also have glittery tape available, so it's perfect for those who want to make a statement with their appearance!

Silver Sponsor

Tamiya presents a "manufacturing and programming school" for elementary school students!
Across the country, many elementary school students are "putting their ideas into shape."
We are also looking for franchise partners!

Media Sponsor
