Tsutsumi Asakichi Lacquer Shop Kintsugi Experience Workshop (August 24th)

Even beginners can get started easily!

Source: Peatix

We will be holding a workshop in collaboration with Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi-ten, a lacquer raw materials manufacturer founded in 1909 that not only explores the appeal of traditional lacquer, but also promotes new values and possibilities for lacquer.

The Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi Urushi Shop's "Kintsugi Coffret", available at LOST AND TOKYO STORE, is a kit that contains all the authentic materials needed for "Kintsugi", such as natural lacquer and pure gold powder, making it easy for even beginners to get started.

For this workshop, we will invite a lecturer from Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi-ten to hold a workshop where you can learn the process of "Kintsugi", which is introduced in the "Kintsugi Coffret".

At the beginning of the workshop, the instructor will explain the general process leading up to the completion of the product. Then, using plates that were chipped and scheduled to be discarded at Nikko's factory in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, participants will experience the most difficult initial steps of "gluing" and "rusting."

After that, you will have to carry out the process yourself.

If you purchase the "Kintsugi Coffret", an experience kit that allows you to do Kintsugi at home on the day, you can follow the attached video explanation to smoothly go through the subsequent process.
(We will offer a 10% discount off the regular price as a workshop participant benefit.)

You can also take home the pottery you have restored in the workshop.
You can also bring your own tableware.

-I want to learn authentic "kintsugi" (gold lacquer).
- I'm interested, but I can't seem to take the first step.
- I want to go at my own pace, from home.
-I have the Kintsugi coffret and tools, but I want to learn directly from an instructor.

This workshop is recommended for such people.

Do you have any broken dishes at home that you just left lying around?
Once your pottery has been carefully restored over time, you are sure to grow to love it even more than before.
We look forward to your participation.

Tsutsumi Asakichi Lacquer Shop
Since its founding in 1909, Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi-ten has been purchasing lacquer sap from lacquer producers, refining, mixing and selling lacquer for various purposes such as black and vermilion. A lacquer raw material manufacturer that provides lacquer to lacquer artists and craftsmen both in Japan and overseas, as well as to restore national treasures and important cultural properties such as Nikko Toshogu Shrine. The company has the top share in the handling of Japanese lacquer.

On the other hand, feeling a sense of crisis about the recent decline in demand for lacquer, he launched "Urushi no Ippo" (Urushi Step) in 2016 as a lacquerware promotion activity. Furthermore, he launched "BEYOND TRADITION" to convey new values and possibilities of lacquerware, and spreads the "value of lacquerware that is kind to people and the earth" to the world using an environmentally friendly lacquered wooden surfboard as an icon. In addition, through the sale of the "Kintsugi Coffret" experience kit, he conveys the importance of repairing and reusing broken things, creating a connection with lacquerware. Furthermore, he has produced recyclable products such as the wooden and lacquered straws /suw, which have garnered sympathy.

Received the 3rd Mitsui Golden Takumi Award and the 1st Japan Craft 21 Ronnie Award.
