"Moshimo FES Shibuya 2024" disaster prevention event for visitors, U-15 street sports tournament

"Disaster Prevention Fair" and "Disaster Prevention Experience Fair" where families can learn together

"TOKYO Moshimo FES Shibuya 2024," an event where children and adults alike can have fun while learning about disaster prevention and mitigation, will be held on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st at Yoyogi Park Event Square, Zelkova Avenue, and Stage Venue.

Many people are still forced to live in evacuation shelters after the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day this year. It has been more than 100 years since the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the probability of a capital earthquake occurring within the next 30 years is estimated to be 70%. If a capital earthquake were to occur now, what would happen? Transportation would stop, and damage would be estimated at about 5 million people unable to return home and about 3 million people living in evacuation shelters. In addition to earthquakes, damage from typhoons and heavy rains has also been increasing recently. It is said that 75% of people are unable to think and are unable to act appropriately due to the occurrence of unexpected disasters, so awareness-raising and daily training on disaster prevention and mitigation are becoming more important.

Shibuya Ward has been holding the Shibuya Ward Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Drill every September, but in Shibuya, where the daytime population is high and a diverse range of people gather, it is necessary for everyone in Shibuya, not just the ward's residents, to think about what they can do to prepare for a "what if" day. Therefore, from 2022, a new festival-style event will be held at Yoyogi Park, which will be an actual evacuation site in the event of a disaster, where anyone, including Shibuya ward residents, people who work in Shibuya, and people who come to Shibuya for shopping, can participate and experience the experience, and deepen and acquire knowledge about disaster prevention and mitigation while having fun. The first event in September 2022 attracted a total of 20,000 visitors over two days, and last year's event also attracted more than 22,000 visitors over two days.

The venue is made up of a "Disaster Prevention Experience Area" and an "Outdoor Area". In order to reconsider what kind of preparations are necessary in the event of a capital earthquake hitting Shibuya, an area called "Future Evacuation Shelters - Improving QOL in Disasters" has been set up to think about and learn about improving QOL during evacuation. It provides an opportunity to think about the ideal form of evacuation shelters from various perspectives, including children, the elderly, people with disabilities, mothers, and pets.

In the "Outdoor Area," there will be a "Disaster Prevention x Camping" event where they will introduce how to prepare for disasters using camping goods. In addition, there will be a "Disaster Prevention Exhibition" where you can learn the basics of disaster prevention, and a "Disaster Prevention Experience Market" where you can learn about disaster prevention and mitigation at various corporate booths.

In conjunction with this event, the Next Generations Games 2024, a street sports competition for U-15 (junior high school students and younger), will be held on the same day at Yoyogi Park's Keyaki-namiki. Four events will be held, including freestyle football, breaking, double dutch, and hip hop. Who will lead the next generation of street sports?

Why not go to a festival-like disaster prevention event or watch street sports with your family, friends, or family?
