"Thai Festival" to be held in Yoyogi Park - See, eat, feel the charm of Thai culture

A weekend filled with spice and music

The 25th Thai Festival Tokyo, a large-scale outdoor event where visitors can experience Thai food and culture, will be held at Yoyogi Park Event Square on May 10th (Sat) and 11th (Sun). The event is being organized by an executive committee including the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo.

The festival started in 2000 with the aim of popularizing Thai cuisine. Since the 6th festival in 2005, the name and content has been changed from the "Thai Food Festival" that focused on food to the "Thai Festival" with the aim of promoting Thai culture as a whole, and the scale has expanded to include Thai music, traditional dance, sports, and more. Currently, it has grown into one of the largest Thailand-related events in Japan, attracting approximately 300,000 visitors.

This year's theme is "Creative Thailand." More diverse content than ever before will be on offer, allowing visitors to experience the "now" of Thailand, where tradition and innovation blend together. The venue will feature around 150 booths selling Thai food, sweets, fruit, local products, and more. At the food and beverage booths, visitors can enjoy dishes that recreate the authentic taste of Thailand, such as tom yum goong, green curry, pad thai, and gapao, as well as drinks such as beer and fruit smoothies. Food and miscellaneous goods imported directly from Thailand will also be on sale.

The stage program will also feature live music performances by artists from Japan, Thai dance, and Muay Thai demonstrations. Artists scheduled to perform include INDIGO, BNK48, KRIST-SINGTO, TAY-NEW, and more. Admission is free, and various performances will be held throughout the day on both days.

The Royal Thai Embassy's booth will introduce five areas of Thai culture: film, games, design, fashion, and sports. In collaboration with the Creative Economy Agency (CEA), 10 businesses invited from Thailand will sell unique products. There will be a capsule toy giveaway for visitors, photo spots, and an introduction to the Embassy's recommended drinks, allowing visitors to experience Thai creativity and hospitality.

In addition, there are also a variety of booths from Thai government-related organizations, including the "Thai Select" certified restaurants by the Office of the Commercial Counsellor and the "TOP THAI" fair in collaboration with Rakuten, the orchid photo spot and tasting of future ingredients by the Agriculture Office, and an experiential fair exhibition by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, all of which are endeavors to convey the charms of Thailand from various angles.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the festival, and it will be a rare opportunity to introduce traditional Thai culture as well as the current state of Thailand, which continues to change and take on new challenges. Why not enjoy a weekend filled with spice and music in search of cross-border exchange and discovery?
