Talking about refugees' "new homelands" -- Special event hosted by UNHCR and Setouchi Triennale
Photographer Takashi Homma and author Natsuki Ikezawa will be taking the stage
2025-05-23
A talk event, "Takashi Homma and Natsuki Ikezawa talk about refugees' journeys and new homes," will be held on June 15, 2025 at 8/COURT on the 8th floor Shibuya Hikarie.
The event is co-hosted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Japan Office and the Setouchi Triennale Executive Committee. Ahead of World Refugee Day on June 20, the event will delve deeply into the "journey" and "new home" of the more than 120 million people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict and persecution, from the perspectives of photography and literature.
The speakers will be photographer Takashi Homma, who presented a work depicting refugees titled "SONGS - The Voices of Refugees Told by Objects" at the currently ongoing "Setouchi Triennale 2025," and writer Natsuki Ikezawa, known for books on the refugee issue such as "Neue Heimat" (Shinchosha). The moderator will be Fram Kitagawa, general director of the Setouchi Triennale. Through a dialogue between the three people, who stand at the intersection of art and social issues, the audience will be given an opportunity to reconsider refugees as "neighbors who live together" rather than "others."
The talk event will run from 2pm to 3:30pm, and the exhibition will run until 7pm. Admission is free (advance registration is required for the talk).
