■ Message for the 5th event of Season 2
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
From 2025 to 2026, stablecoins will enter the "implementation phase."
The first official issuance of JPYC in Japan, the start of proof-of-concept experiments by three megabanks, and the launch of the Swift collaboration project—Japan's stablecoin revolution is steadily progressing. The market size is already approximately 25 trillion yen. It is no longer just a type of virtual currency, but a new payment infrastructure that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Shibuya Web3 University has been holding an event on the theme of stablecoins every January. This will be the third event. This will be a place of essential learning, as evidenced by the accumulation of knowledge gained over the past 35 events, where we will discuss the current state of the Web3 revolution in 2026.
Why are stablecoins key to Web3 innovation?
A pioneering company that launched Japan's first yen-denominated stablecoin. A fintech company working with megabanks to promote a legally compliant digital asset infrastructure. And Toyota Blockchain Lab, which aims to realize a traceable society.
These three perspectives paint a picture of a future in which payments and society will change.
If traceable value transfer becomes a reality, the flow of goods and the flow of value will be integrated, and trust will be built into all transactions.
At the 36th Shibuya Web3 University, we will envision the future together with everyone at the venue.

■ Program
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
18:00-18:15 Opening
18:15-18:30 Session 1: "Japan's First JPYC Challenge: Yen-Denominated Stablecoin on a Public Chain" (15 minutes)
How did Japan's first yen-denominated stablecoin, JPYC, come about and how has it been accepted by society? We look at the background to the bold decision to issue it on a public chain, the technical challenges, regulatory compliance, and future prospects. Pioneers discuss the conditions and potential for stablecoins to function as payment infrastructure.
18:30-18:45 Session 2: "The Future of Stablecoins as Envisioned by Megabank Collaboration: Towards a Legally Compliant Digital Asset Platform" (15 minutes)
The three megabanks, Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho, and Sumitomo Mitsui, have begun a stablecoin proof-of-concept experiment. Progmat and Datachain are collaborating on Swift to launch "Project Pax." At the forefront of efforts to bridge traditional financial infrastructure with blockchain technology. How can we build a new value exchange mechanism while complying with legal regulations? We discuss the social implementation of stablecoins from the perspective of financial institutions.
18:45-19:00 Session 3: "Realizing a Traceable Society—Toyota Blockchain Lab's Vision of a Future in which Things and Value are Integrated" (15 minutes)
What will happen once stablecoins become mainstream? Toyota Blockchain Lab's vision is a "traceable society." Tracking the flow of goods using blockchain and integrating it with the transfer of value will create transparency and trust throughout the supply chain. This is the shape of a new social infrastructure made possible by Web3, which is being proven in the huge ecosystem that is the automotive industry.
19:00-19:30 Panel Discussion: "The Future of Web3 Pioneering Stablecoins: Towards a New Era of Payments, Traceability, and Trust" (30 minutes)
Discussion by all speakers
Moderator: hajimex (President of Shibuya Web3 University)
A startup, a megabank, and Toyota Blockchain Lab will discuss the potential of stablecoins from their respective perspectives and the future that lies ahead.
The implementation of stablecoin payment infrastructure is the first step in Web3's penetration into society. If traceable value transfer becomes a reality, the flow of goods and the flow of value will be integrated, creating transparency throughout the supply chain. Trust will be built into every transaction.
We will consider not only the technical aspects but also regulatory trends, user perspectives, and the grand vision of a traceable society - how will the new value exchange and trust infrastructure of the Web3 era be implemented in society? Together with everyone at the venue, we will envision the future.
