Shibuya Web3 University has entered its fourth year.
Since the inaugural event in January 2023, we have consistently held a real-world event every month at WeWork @ SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE, and before we knew it, we were on our 41st event.
WeWork @ SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE– This is where it all began. And this is where we are growing.

Looking back at the speakers who have taken the stage so far—

Noritaka Okabe from JPYC, Tatsuya Saito from Progmat, Mai Furukawa from XRPL Japan, Yoshihiro Yoshida from HashPort, Kensuke Amaba from Animoca Brands Japan, Takeshi Chino from Binance Japan, Masaaki Taira, who was the chairman of the LDP Web3 Project Team at the time of the presentation, Hideto Kawasaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Digital Affairs, and even a special collaboration with Nomura Securities ──

I have been learning alongside people who are at the forefront of implementing Web3 in society.
We remain unwavering in our pursuit of the essentials. While we embrace the keyword "Web3," what we've discussed is not technical theory, but implementation for the benefit of people and society.
This 41st event will be a special collaborative seminar with "WeWork," with whom Shibuya Web3 University continues to operate.

At the start of the event, we will receive an opening message from Keitaro Kumagai, President and CEO of WeWork Japan.
And WeWork Community Manager, Ms. Ebana, will share plenty of practical knowledge from the field.

Furthermore, the person who will be responsible for the most essential aspects of the theme is Mr. Aramu Mine, Chief web3 officer of GaiaX Co., Ltd., which is also an advisory company to Shibuya Web3 University. Mr. Mine also spoke at the third session (April 2023). Three years have passed since then. The environment surrounding Web3 has changed dramatically, and GaiaX's efforts to implement DAO, including collaboration with local governments, have moved to the next phase.

■ Why is "Design the next generation of DAOs" important now?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The term DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) has long been discussed in the Web3 world, and its implementation is now steadily progressing.
Since 2022, Ms. Mine of GaiaX has been running a support business for the formation of DAOs, and has helped create numerous DAOs with various regions, including the "Beautiful Village DAO" in Chizu Town, Tottori Prefecture and Matsuzaki Town, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Furthermore, "Gunma Yamaiku DAO" has been launched, using the mountainous forests of Gunma Prefecture as its field of activity to cultivate new economic opportunities and relationships together with local residents.

The knowledge and experience accumulated by those who have actually run DAO is now poised to move to the next stage.
What about WeWork?
WeWork doesn't explicitly use the term "DAO" (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). However, community manager Ebana explained it this way:
"At WeWork, the upper management listens to the community's voices, and the members take ownership of WeWork. As a result, the organization is evolving in a cyclical manner."

This embodies what is truly essential for an organization to function effectively.
And now, as Shibuya Web3 University enters its fourth year, we have a strong sense that it has grown together with the community.

Product → User → Community → Organization.
Value comes first, then the community grows, and then the organization takes shape. This sequence may be one perspective to consider when thinking about the future of DAOs.

"Design the next generation of DAOs"—This is not a session where we will provide answers. Three practitioners will bring together their perspectives from their respective fields and formulate questions together with the audience.

■ Another key theme: "Regional revitalization"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

WeWork, GaiaX, and Shibuya Web3 University have all, unintentionally, been working towards the direction of "regional revitalization."
WeWork has expanded its locations nationwide, creating new ways of working and new flows of people in local communities. Community manager Ms. Ebana is currently involved in creating a network of people connected to the town of Kamikawa in Hokkaido, fostering a sustainable future for the region by connecting people.
Ms. Mine of GaiaX has co-founded a DAO with a local government and is working alongside local residents to design a new economic cycle and relationships.
Shibuya Web3 University also announced a pilot project with Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, called "Web3 x Local Government," at its 3rd anniversary event in February 2026, and has been seriously pursuing collaboration with local governments.
"Web3 × Community × Regional Revitalization"—the future of society can be seen through the combination of these three elements. With this belief, the three parties will engage in dialogue tonight.

After working in development, sales, and leasing at a real estate company, I gained practical experience in real estate investment management, including J-REITs, at Daiwa Real Estate Asset Management Co., Ltd.

He joined WeWork Japan LLC in 2019. After working in the Real Estate division on opening WeWork locations, he also took on a role in the Sales division and was appointed Head of Real Estate & Sales. In April 2024, he was appointed COO (and Head of Real Estate & Sales) of WWJ Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank Corp.) under a new organizational structure, and in March 2025, he was appointed President and CEO.

Kozue Ebana

Since WeWork's entry into Japan in 2018, I have worked as a community manager, connecting companies and individuals and creating spaces that generate new value from human relationships. I have created numerous moments where people from diverse backgrounds meet and new businesses and challenges are born.

Currently, I am involved in community development in Kamikawa Town, Hokkaido, and am in charge of creating "related populations" that connect people from both within and outside the region. I am challenging myself to cultivate a sustainable future for the region by designing the flow of people and relationships.

Graduated from an American university (early childhood education and emotional intelligence), and from Tamagawa University's Faculty of Education (elementary school teacher's license). Founded Tanemaku Co., Ltd., and practices "sowing seeds of connection and creating spaces where people can engage in their own way." I've recently become interested in DAO/NFT after encountering Shibuya Web3 University.

Shibuya Web3 University has entered its fourth year.
From the 0th to the 41st event, we have held monthly in-person events at WeWork @ SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE. What we have always valued is the perspective of "technology for people and society," not "technology for technology's sake."
Our goal is to continue to be a place where practitioners can gather to think together and act together towards the future of society, using the keyword "Web3."
This 41st installment will be a special collaborative seminar with WeWork, the venue where we continue our activities, and we will be welcoming Mr. Mine from GaiaX, our advisory company, as our keynote guest to address the fundamental themes of community and regional revitalization.
