[QWS 5th term] ART CÉNACLE | Understanding "how to look at artwork" changes your perspective on business.
Art event for business professionals

ART CÉNACLE is an art event for business professionals organized by +ART GALLERY (Plus Art Co., Ltd.).
"CÉNACLE" is a French word meaning "upper room," and it refers to the small circle of artists who gathered in a room in 19th-century Paris to converse. We chose this name because we wanted to create a space where people interested in art could gather for a night, learn, and take away insights while surrounded by the works of the exhibiting artists.
Why is "the ability to appreciate" important now?
With generative AI, anyone can create content quickly and in unlimited quantities. Meanwhile, artists choose the content and methods of expression from their own perspective, presenting and exhibiting their work in their own unique ways and attracting attention.
If logical equals language, then illogical equals sensibility or feeling.
As a business, we believe that gaining a deeper understanding of the works, thoughts, and perspectives of content creators (artists) is crucial in this day and age, and that is why we planned this event.
I believe that the "ability to appreciate" is the ability to seize business opportunities that haven't yet surfaced, the ability to sense user needs, and the ability to create the future era that we haven't yet seen. Because it's something that can't be acquired instantly, I think it's a skill that is worth cultivating through repeated opportunities.
This is a gathering where you can start even if you don't know how to look at things.
"I like art, but I don't know how to appreciate it properly." "Galleries seem intimidating and difficult to enter." "I'd like to buy a piece of art, but I don't know where to start."
ART CÉNACLE is a venue held only once a quarter, where you can participate even if you have such doubts.
There isn't always a single, definitive concept for every artwork. Sometimes it contains elements that the artist themselves hasn't fully articulated, and sometimes the meaning emerges for the viewer. That's why we want this to be a time for you to explore your own perspective—where to look from and what clues to use—while standing before the actual artwork.
Points of focus for appreciation (one example)
Before considering what is depicted, I wonder where my eyes first went.
Screen size, material, image texture — why that choice?
Recurring motifs, colors, and line patterns
The question isn't "good/bad," but "why did you choose this method?"
Some parts were pleasant, and some parts were a little unsettling.
Questions you might want to ask an author (examples)
What did you try to arrive at this method of expression?
When and what was the initial trigger for your desire to create something?
When is the title of a work decided?
To what extent is it left to the viewer's interpretation?
The most luxurious aspect of this event is the opportunity to directly ask the artist about not only the artwork itself, but also the background and circumstances that led to its creation.
/ What you can take away from this one night
1. You can get a "map" of the art world.
Artists, curators, galleries, collectors. This is an opportunity to explore the diverse groups of people involved in creating an exhibition, and to learn how it all unfolds. It's a valuable introduction for those outside the industry.
2. The gallery becomes a "place to enter."
How to view an exhibition, how to talk to the artist, how to think about prices—just having one experience will change the way you perceive galleries the next time you encounter one in town.
3. Find out "what kind of writers there are."
For those considering purchasing artwork, this is an opportunity to explore expressions that resonate with your own sensibilities while experiencing the actual works and interacting with the artist. If you are interested, you can also discuss the artwork on the spot.
