"Space Brothers" Exhibition to be held at SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE to commemorate the series' conclusion, featuring author talks and a lunar base.

Book cafe "Jun Kissa Uchuu" also opens.

An event in collaboration with the popular manga "Space Brothers," titled "Shibuya Space School ~Encounter Questions. Encounter Excitement.~," will begin on August 3rd at SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE.

"Space Brothers" is a manga series by Chūya Koyama that was serialized in Kodansha's manga magazine "Morning" from 2007. It depicts the lives of people who challenge space and those who support them, centering on Mutta Nanba, an older brother who aims to become an astronaut, and his younger brother Hibito, who has already achieved his dream. The series, which ran for 18 years, concluded on July 22nd of this year.

This collaboration between the facility and the work is the second, following the first one in the summer of 2022. Last time, the observation facility "SHIBUYA SKY" was transformed into the "Shibuya Space School," featuring exhibits of space equipment, a VR experience set on the lunar surface, astronomical observations, and talk events. On the 12th floor, a book cafe called "Jun Kissa Uchuu" (Pure Cafe Space), inspired by a shop run by a space enthusiast in the 1970s, will also open.

This time, under the theme of "Encountering Questions. Encountering Excitement," three classrooms—"Creation," "Storytelling," and "World"—will be set up within the museum. Through exhibitions, talk shows, and workshops, visitors will be able to experience the "dreams," "challenges," and "failures" depicted in the works, as well as a perspective of viewing Earth from space.

The "Creative Classroom" located in the 12th-floor event space "Scene12" will feature "SHIBUYA MOON BASE," inspired by a lunar base. Panels showcasing famous scenes and lines from the series, photo spots, and a large-scale "Space Brothers" official store will be set up. In its first collaboration with "Hachifuru SHIBUYA meets AKITA," a shop themed around Shibuya's Hachiko statue, the store will sell acrylic keychains and postcards featuring newly drawn artwork.

On August 16th, a talk show titled "'Space Brothers' Final Volume Release Celebration! New Volume Festival ~Let's Talk with Author Chūya Koyama~" will be held, featuring author Koyama and his editor. They will look back on the series from its start to its conclusion, discussing their thoughts on the work, behind-the-scenes stories of its creation, and memorable episodes. A dialogue between Koyama and Masayuki Takahata, also known as the "King of Stationery," is also scheduled for the same day.

In addition, there will be a talk by the editor in charge about behind-the-scenes stories of the production, a workshop on clouds as seen from space by cloud researcher Kentaro Araki, and a lecture on astrophysics by physicist Yuichi Takamizu. There will also be a paid workshop where participants can create their own "scent of space" by combining scents themed around "Earth," "Moon," and "outer space."

On the 9th floor, within "TULLY'S COFFEE commu square," at "SCRAMBLE books&," a "Storytelling Classroom" will feature an event titled "Koyama Stationery Store & Space Brothers." Known for his love of stationery, Koyama will showcase his favorite pens and notebooks, as well as sell books that have inspired his creative work. The atmosphere of the writing desk he uses for drawing will also be recreated, conveying the "hands" and thought process behind the creation of his works.

The "World Classroom" exhibition, located in the SHIBUYA SKY "SKY GALLERY" on the 46th floor, will host the exhibition "WE ARE SPACE BROTHERS." It will introduce the "overview effect," the change in consciousness that astronauts experience when they view Earth from space, through the words of real astronauts and scenes from the film.

The exhibition features displays that juxtapose the real-world lunar exploration plan, the "Artemis Program," with the story of Hibito and Mutta's quest for the moon, as well as an interactive project where visitors can write down "what they felt when they looked up at the sky today." With the cooperation of JAXA, models of rockets and the International Space Station (ISS), and replicas of spacesuits are also on display.

On August 21st and 22nd, the rooftop observation space "SKY STAGE" will host "Catch the moon!! in Shibuya Space School," an astronomical observation event for families. The event will include a "Star Catch Contest" where participants compete to see who can capture designated celestial bodies and objects the fastest and most accurately using telescopes of the same specifications.

During the event, the music bar "Paradise Lounge" on the 46th floor will be offering "Galaxy Blueberry Soda" (980 yen), inspired by a blue planet floating in space; "Blue Planet Soft" (same price), which features ramune soft serve ice cream topped with blueberry sauce and a cookie resembling a full moon; and "Saturn" (1,200 yen), a cocktail inspired by the planet Saturn.

Opening hours are subject to the operating hours of each facility. The events on the 12th and 9th floors are free of charge and run until August 16th. The exhibition and limited menu on the 46th floor are available until August 23rd and require a SHIBUYA SKY admission ticket or annual pass.
