SHIBUY.A. × BACK TO THE PAST
Hop on a time machine and embark on a journey to discover Shibuya and yourself from back then...
#2View of Shibuya Station from Miyashita Park
Old photo: 1955
Current photo: September 2024

Flowing through the center of the photo is the Shibuya River. On the left side of the river, you can see a building with the words "MANO BEAUTY SALOON" written on it. It is likely that there was a beauty salon run by the Mano Beauty School at the time. Shibuya Toei (now Bic Camera and Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita), which opened in 1953, is also located in the area.
Towering across the river is the Tokyu Toyoko Department Store (East Building), and to its right is the Tokyu Kaikan (West Building), which was added in 1954. In the foreground, the thick grass is YAMANOTE LINE Line tracks. The Shibuya River is now covered and invisible, but it continues to flow quietly from Cat Street through Miyashita Park and under SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE.
