Tokyu to offer free tickets to 1,600 junior and senior high school students for musical "Sister Act"

Tokyu Group will hold the "Tokyu Musical Program 2024" to support junior and senior high school students who will lead the future. The program will invite 800 pairs (1,600 people) to the Broadway musical "Sister Act," which will be performed at Tokyu Theatre Orb on Sunday, July 14th.

The "Tokyu Musical Program" began in 2012 as part of the Tokyu Group's social contribution activities, which aim to fulfill the elements of "revitalization," "cultural promotion," and "educational dissemination." The program invites teenage junior and senior high school students, who represent the future, to experience the charm of authentic Broadway musicals and feel closer to them. Although it was forced to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the ninth time the program has been held.

The work we saw this time is a musical adaptation of the comedy film "Sister Act" (1992), which was a huge hit in Japan, and was originally produced by Whoopi Goldberg, who starred in the film. The world premiere at the London Baldium Theatre in 2009 was a huge hit with standing ovations every day, and the following year it was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards, and when it opened on Broadway in 2011 it was nominated for five Tony Awards. Since then it has been performed in seven languages around the world, and has attracted over six million audiences around the world, including in Europe and Asia.

Whoopi said, "You can invite anyone to this show! It's okay even if you don't like them. You'll become good friends after watching it," and said that it is a production that will make everyone happy. The touching story of women with different lifestyles who nurture friendship through song and music remains the same as in the movie, and the energetic live singing that is unique to musicals gives the story a refreshing and uplifting climax.

Applicants must be a junior high or high school student and a companion (junior high school student or older), and parents and children or friends can also participate. Those who wish to participate must apply by June 17th on the Tokyu Group website (https://tokyugroup.jp), and if there are a large number of applications, a lottery will be held.

This is your chance to experience a live Broadway musical. Why not try it with your family or friends during the summer holidays?
