LGBTQ+ festival "Tokyo Pride 2025" to be held! Annual parade in Shibuya and Harajuku
Two days of pitch talks by stakeholders and supporters
2025-05-30
"Tokyo Pride 2025," a festival promoting the visibility of LGBTQ+ and respecting diversity, will be held for two days on June 7th (Sat) and 8th (Sun) at the Yoyogi Park Event Square. The event is organized by the nonprofit organization Tokyo Rainbow Pride (TRP).
The event, which aims to make the LGBTQ+ community visible and promote public understanding towards realizing a society of coexistence, was first held in Yoyogi Park in April 2012 as "Tokyo Rainbow Pride" and will be renamed "Tokyo Pride" in 2025. It has grown in scale every year and will mark its 13th year this year. This year's theme is "Same Life, Same Rights," and conveys the message of aiming to realize a society where all people can enjoy equal rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
At the main event, the Pride Festival, held in the event plaza, many organizations, including NPOs, companies, and restaurants, will set up booths. Through talk sessions, workshops, art exhibitions, and more, the event will provide a valuable opportunity for anyone to casually learn about and interact with the social issues and diversity surrounding LGBTQ+.
The venue from previous events
At the booth hosted by TRP, a project titled "Listen x Talk x Connect! ~LGBTQ+ and Diverse Issues~" was held. Focusing on "intersectionality," the project will highlight the multiple minority issues within the LGBTQ+ community, such as disabilities, medical care, poverty, and regional disparities. Pitch talks and networking events will be held by representatives of professional organizations in each field, with the aim of visualizing and resolving these issues.
On the exterior wall of the booth, a special collaboration piece with the creative company "HERALBONY", which has a licensing agreement with artists with disabilities, will be on display. The work "Maru" by artist Seitaro Takeuchi will decorate the booth, expressing a visual that celebrates the individuality of each visitor.
There will also be a charity booth set up by the JAPAN PRIDE NETWORK, which brings together pride event organizers from all over Japan. Under the theme of "Who is your 'oshi'?", visitors can donate to the organization they want to support and receive original stickers and capsule toys. This is attracting attention as an attempt to expand the circle of support nationwide.
In addition, as a collaborative project with "Marriage For All Japan," the exhibition "We Want It to Be Common Sense" will be held. The exhibition will present the legal inequalities faced by same-sex couples in comparison with the actions permitted for heterosexual couples, and appeal for the need for system reform.
On the 7th, the radio program "Find Your Colors with TOKYO RAINBOW PRIDE" featuring DJ Bourbonne will be broadcast live.
The venue will also be broadcasting live by the radio station interfm, which caters to minorities, including foreign language speakers. On the 7th, "Find Your Colors with TOKYO RAINBOW PRIDE" (DJ Bourbonne) will be broadcast, and on the 8th, "Lazy Sunday Tokyo Pride 2025 Special" (DJs George Cockle and Maya Watanabe) will be broadcast, conveying the excitement of the venue through interviews with performers and DJ sets.
Approximately 60 groups parade through Shibuya and Harajuku, aiming to "realize a society where people can live freely"
A look at past Pride Parades
Starting at noon on the 8th, the second day of the event, the annual "Pride Parade" will take place on the streets of Shibuya and Harajuku. In addition, this year they will collaborate with Marriage For All Japan, and will march through the city with people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities and their supporters (ALLY), including 50 couples (100 people) who want same-sex marriage to be legalized, to express their solidarity and congratulations.
