Ryusei School 140th Anniversary Commemorative Flower Exhibition "Ikebana: Past, Present, East and West"
In 2026, the Ryusei school will celebrate its 140th anniversary.
In this momentous year, we will be holding the "Ryusei-ha 140th Anniversary Flower Exhibition 'Ikebana Past and Present, East and West'" at SHIBUYA STREAM Hall, which is directly connected to Shibuya Station.
"Past and Present, East and West"—from ancient times to the present, and from Japan to the world.
The classical style of ikebana that the Ryusei school continues to pass down today has its roots in ancient times, dating back to the introduction of Buddhism to Japan. Since its founding in 1886, the Ryusei school has maintained its unique approach, engaging with plants, observing their expressions, the individuality of each flower and branch, and the very nature of life, while constantly seeking new forms of expression within the changing times.
This exhibition comprehensively covers the past and present of ikebana, showcasing diverse expressions based on the individuality of each arranger, and exploring the future possibilities of ikebana.
We invite you to visit the venue and see for yourself our approach to spreading the charm of ikebana from tradition to the present, transcending East and West.

A commemorative flower exhibition celebrating the 140th anniversary of the school's founding, to be held in three phases.
This year, the event will be held over six days in three separate sessions.
Almost all of the exhibits will be changed in each of the three periods, allowing you to enjoy the different expressions presented in each of the three periods.
To commemorate the 140th anniversary of its founding, the Ryusei school's unique perspective on plants, which it has cherished for generations and calls "the face of plants," will unfold in the space of SHIBUYA STREAM Hall as new expressions through the individuality of contemporary artists.
The unique expressions of each flower and branch of a plant. Through the works created from the diverse perspectives of each arranger, we hope you will discover a new charm of ikebana.
140 Years of Progress, and Looking Ahead
Since its founding in 1886, the Ryusei school has explored the possibilities of expressing the beauty of plants in line with the changing times. In this year's flower exhibition, marking its 140th anniversary, we will present Ryusei school ikebana that carries on this long history while moving towards the next era.
