A special exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the magazine "POPEYE," titled "POPEYE 50th Anniversary Exhibition," will begin on November 20th at "PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO" on the 4th floor of Shibuya PARCO.
"POPEYE," launched in 1976 (Showa 51) by Heibon Publishing, the predecessor of Magazine House, has influenced Japanese youth culture by introducing a wide range of lifestyles, including fashion, music, food, and travel, with the catchphrase "Magazine for City Boys." This year marks its 50th anniversary.
The exhibition is part of a special program commemorating the 7th anniversary of Shibuya PARCO's opening. It looks back on the magazine's half-century history through past issues, valuable materials, and interactive exhibits.
Freely browse through all 50 issues published to date; the editorial office from the time of its founding has also been recreated.
The venue will display 50 issues of "POPEYE" selected by the editorial team from past issues, including the inaugural issue, that symbolize the magazine's history. There will also be a space where visitors can actually pick up and read the magazines. The fashion-related exhibit will focus on the stylists who have shaped the magazine's style, introducing their outfits and the fashion scene of the time, along with their own comments.

The exhibition will also feature the "Popeye Font" that has graced the pages of the magazine. Masahiro Shintani, who worked as the right-hand man of the late Seiichi Horiuchi, who designed the magazine's original logo, will unveil original drawings of newly hand-drawn alphabets, numbers, and symbols created for the 50th anniversary project.

In addition, a corner of the editorial office from the time of the magazine's founding will be recreated, and treasured materials left behind by the editorial department will be on display. There will also be a section introducing the words of the late Yoshihisa Kinami, who served as the first editor-in-chief and was involved in the founding of magazines such as "BRUTUS."

Those who correctly answer the "POPEYE Word Quiz" at the venue will also receive a limited edition book cover (both items are available in limited quantities). The free area will feature a browsing space for past archives and a shop selling original exhibition merchandise.
