The theme of the MONSTER Exhibition is "Kaiju" (MONSTER). This year, artists selected from public entries will be exhibiting new monsters.
The MONSTER Exhibition is now in its 12th year. The MONSTER Exhibition brings together unparalleled works, creating a special exhibition that can be enjoyed by many people, from children to adults.
"Kaiju" (MONSTER), which has a unique Japanese context, fascinates artists and stimulates their imagination. The interpretation of "Kaiju" (MONSTER) is left to the artists. The way of expressing their imagination can be through any genre, including video, painting, sculpture, graphics, and architecture.
This year again, artists selected from public entries will exhibit new "Kaiju" (MONSTER) works that explore creatures, represent emotions hidden within ourselves, expose social issues, and sound a warning about natural disasters.
The MONSTER Exhibition is an art project with the theme of "Kaiju" (MONSTER).
In Japan, people believe that there are gods in mountains, seas, wind, plants, houses, and everything, but they also feel a frightening presence in nature and everything, and so they created "Kaiju" (MONSTER). The MONSTER Exhibition began in the wake of 3/11, and the theme is "Kaiju" (MONSTER), a metaphor for the tsunami that swallowed everything.
Currently, in light of the large-scale natural disasters that have occurred both in Japan and overseas since 3/11, the theme and charity have been carried on and the project is operating as a new art project.

We would like to express our sympathy to all those affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024. This year's charity will be donated to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024.
The MONSTER Exhibition has reached its 12th edition. This exhibition, which brings together unparalleled works, offers an experience that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from children to adults.
“Kaiju” (MONSTER), with its uniquely Japanese context, fascinates and stimulates the imagination of artists. The interpretation of “Kaiju” (MONSTER) is left to the artists, and their imaginative expressions are not confined to any genre, spanning film, painting, sculpture, graphics, and architecture.
This year as well, artists selected through an open call will present new “Kaiju” (MONSTER) creations—whether they are exploring creatures, expressing hidden emotions, raising awareness of social issues, or sounding alarms about natural disasters.
The MONSTER Exhibition is an art project themed around “Kaiju” (MONSTER). In Japan, while it is believed that gods reside in everything, from mountains and seas to winds, trees, and houses, there is also a sense of fear towards nature and all things, which gave rise to the concept of “Kaiju” (MONSTER). The MONSTER Exhibition started as a metaphor for the tsunami that engulfed everything during the 3.11 earthquake. Today, with large-scale natural disasters continuing both domestically and internationally since 3.11, the project carries on its theme and charity work as it evolves into a new art project.
