2024-12-11
The d47 MUSEUM, a museum themed on the 47 prefectures located on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie, will be holding its 35th special exhibition, "NIPPON'S 47 2025 CRAFT: The future of craft as seen through the will of 47," from November 29, 2024 to March 16, 2025.
The exhibition focuses on one "craft" selected from each of Japan's 47 prefectures. It goes beyond the boundaries of handicrafts and handicrafts to focus on the "will" and "attitude" of the people involved. In modern times, the word "craft" is not only used to describe the products themselves, such as "craft beer" and "craft sake," but is also spreading as an expression to express the thoughts and philosophies that go into making things.
At the venue, there will be exhibits where visitors can actually touch craft works from each region and intuitively feel their beauty and strength, providing an opportunity to think about the individuality of each region of Japan and the future of "intentional manufacturing."
"d47 MUSEUM" has in the past promoted the appeal of Japanese handicrafts by holding special exhibitions introducing craft artists representing each prefecture and touring exhibitions overseas. This time, the museum is attempting to explore the changes and future of the word "craft" while placing importance on the perspective of "the long-lasting characteristics of the region."

On January 19, 2025, exhibitors such as Akiko Hino of Studio Mokkuwa, Takao Takagi of Kogei Fumiko, and Kyoichiro Washizu of Ochazome Washizu. will take to the stage to hold talk shows and exhibitor roundtable discussions that will delve deeper into the exhibition from various perspectives, and there will also be events such as workshops and ordering sessions during the event. An exhibition catalogue and online audio guides will also be available, allowing visitors to experience the charm of "craft" in even greater depth.
