Sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki holds solo exhibition at Shibuya PARCO, expressing the multifaceted nature of humanity through wood carving.
Solo Exhibition "Emergent Entities"
2026-05-13
Sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki's solo exhibition, "Emergent Entities," will begin on June 12th at the PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO gallery space in Shibuya PARCO.
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1972, Kanemaki is an artist known for his unique wood carvings in which multiple faces and limbs overlap on a single body. After graduating from the Department of Sculpture at Tama Art University, he has expressed the fluctuations and multifaceted nature hidden within the human psyche, using themes such as "ambivalence" and "memento mori" (life and death). His delicate sculpting techniques and fantastical figures have attracted attention both domestically and internationally, and his works are highly popular, selling out every time they are exhibited.
The exhibition will primarily feature recent works, as well as screening original animations inspired by the world of his art. By incorporating spatial design that changes the impression of the works depending on light, shadow, and the viewer's distance, the exhibition will present "the current state of Kanemaki's work" from multiple perspectives in a unique PARCO style.

The main visual features the wood carving "Meikyo Prism," created with actress Anna Yamada as the model. The carving expresses Yamada's personality, which combines transparency with a complex inner world, through multiple layers of faces and expressions.

During the exhibition period, a dialogue with creator Tomu Kawada is scheduled for June 13th, and a three-way discussion event with sculptors Atsuhiko Misawa and Koji Tanada is scheduled for June 21st. No advance registration is required for either event; admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
