Commemorating the publication of "Shibuya Parco's Revival" and "Half a Century of Shibuya" Discussing Shibuya's past and future

The authors of the two books will hold a talk at Shibuya Parco

A talk event will be held at Shibuya PARCO on February 25th to commemorate the publication of "Shibuya PARCO no Fukkatsu" (Kobunsha), a behind-the-scenes look at the revival of Shibuya PARCO, and "Shibuya Half Century" (Shobunsha), a multifaceted look back at 50 years of city and culture. The event is being hosted by PARCO, Kobunsha, and Shobunsha.

This event will use books as a guide to interpret the current and future state of Shibuya, a city undergoing ongoing redevelopment. The venue is DOMMUNE on the 9th floor of Shibuya PARCO. Yugo Hiramatsu, author of "Shibuya PARCO's Revival" and store manager since 2024, will discuss the role that commercial facilities will play in the future, through strategies, concept-making, and personnel training after reopening following closures. Meanwhile, Tomoko Uchida, author of "Shibuya Half a Century," will unravel the city's transformation and potential as revealed through a variety of testimonies based on her Kyodo News serialization. The talk will delve deeper into the perspectives that connect the "urban reality" and "future," which could not be fully conveyed in either book alone. Guests well versed in Shibuya culture and urban culture are also scheduled to take the stage on the day.

The intersection of these two books, which are centered around "Koen-dori" and "Parco Culture," provides a three-dimensional look at the history that the city of Shibuya has accumulated and hints for the next era.
