The annual spring Earth Festival, "Earth Day Tokyo 2026," will be held on April 18th (Sat) and 19th (Sun), 2026, at the Yoyogi Park Event Plaza and Keyaki Avenue.
Earth Day is a global environmental event that began in the United States in 1970 and has now grown into an environmental movement with approximately 500 million participants in 175 countries worldwide. In Japan, it has been held in Yoyogi Park and other locations since 1990, and has been established as "Earth Day Tokyo" since 2001. It has developed not only as an event to address environmental issues, but also as an opportunity to consider the diverse challenges facing modern society, such as "eco," "sustainability," "ethical practices," and "diversity." Through a variety of programs, it is expected to raise awareness of environmental and social issues, and more than 100,000 visitors are anticipated this year.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, and the venue will feature approximately 300 booths from civic groups and companies focusing on themes such as environmental protection, international cooperation, and organic food. Around 50 student groups will also participate, providing visitors with a space to "learn about environmental issues through experience" through workshops and markets.
One of its distinguishing features is that the entire event will be powered entirely by renewable energy. Portable power supplies, solar panels, and biodiesel power generation using waste cooking oil will be combined to supply electricity to the venue. The event will be designed to allow visitors to experience the use of renewable energy firsthand.

The main stage will also host music performances and talk sessions. On April 18th, Haru Nemuri and Yuuga will perform, and on the 19th, Tokiko Kato, Oohata Yuichi + Sakamoto Miu, and Earth Day Sessions (Sato Taiji, KenKen, Shiino Kyoichi, Kaneko Takumi) will deliver live performances. In the talk sessions, Shibuya Ward Mayor Ken Hasebe and Ito Seiko will take the stage to discuss a sustainable society.
The content will be based on six themes, including "inclusiveness," "youth," and "peace," and will feature a space where diverse people can participate with peace of mind, youth-led initiatives, and art projects themed on peace. A play park and care facilities will also be provided so that people of all abilities and ages can enjoy themselves.

In addition, there will be "good deed actions" that visitors can participate in, such as bringing their own reusable bags and dishes, and collecting used cooking oil. The aim is to suggest that small everyday actions can be the catalyst for changing the future.
Now in its quarter-century mark, the event has become established as a place where people can enjoy music, food, shopping, and more while thinking about environmental issues in a relatable way. This year, it will take a new step forward as a "festival of the Earth that everyone can participate in," by further strengthening its renewable energy operations and inclusive initiatives.
