Shibuya Sky "Summer Festival in the Sky" with Bon Odori, paper lanterns, and Tanabata at 229 meters above the ground!
A summer festival event unique to Shibuya, "Summer Festival in the Sky," will be held from July 1st to 20th at SHIBUYA SKY, an observation facility in the 229-meter-high east tower of SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE.
"SHIBUYA SKY Bon Odori in the Sky", which was held for the first time last year over two days during the Obon period, was well received as a new culture where diverse people gather and mix together. This year, the event will be scaled up even further, expanding the period to 20 days and including Bon Odori, aiming to develop into a new summer festival unique to Shibuya.
There are three main highlights this year. The first main event is the new Bon Odori event in Shibuya, "ROOFTOP Bon Odori," which will be held on July 13th and 20th.
On the day, Japan's first professional Japanese drum group "Sukeroku Taiko" and "D-mc NEXT", a dance group for working adults founded in 2004 and an alumni group of the dance circle "D-mc", will perform. In addition, the crossing lights illuminating the sky and the floor lights will be linked to the rhythm of the Bon Odori dance, creating a special performance with a sense of unity throughout the "SKY STAGE". In addition, this year there will be a performance of "Shibuya Scramble Ondo", livening up the event. Each day, Part 1: 18:15-19:15, Part 2: 19:45-20:45.
The second is the fantastical indoor decoration "Sky Lantern Corridor" that will be installed at the indoor observation corridor "SKY GALLERY" from July 1 to July 20. The "sky blue" lanterns will match the night view of Shibuya, creating a Japanese summer scene.
In addition, a "tanzaku tree" will be set up to collect wishes from people all over the world, and visitors' wishes will be sent from the sky. The tanzaku will then be donated to Konno Hachimangu Shrine and burned at a later date.
The final highlight is the astronomical observation event "TANABATA NIGHT at SHIBUYA Tanabata Stargazing" to be held on July 7. Using the telescopes installed in the rooftop observation space "SKY STAGE", you can observe the stars "Vega", "Hikoboshi", and the constellation Scorpio, which represents summer.
In addition, this year, as a Tanabata-only tour project, a tour ticket will be sold in collaboration with the Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya in the Owada Cultural Center. After participating in a special planetarium viewing event, a set plan will be sold that allows you to enjoy Tanabata stargazing at SHIBUYA SKY with a visiting commentary by a starry sky commentator from the Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya. The tour ticket is 3,000 yen (tax included) per person.
Why not experience the feeling of a summer festival from 229 meters above Shibuya? Make sure to wear a yukata.
Anyone with a SHIBUYA SKY admission ticket or SHIBUYA SKY PASSPORT (annual pass) can participate in any event during the event.
