Agnès b.'s Beloved Street Culture: International Touring Exhibition at Shibuya PARCO

This article showcases art pieces and other items collected by Agnès b. over half a century!

An exhibition showcasing art pieces collected by agnès b. over half a century, titled "agnès b. on aime le graff!! _50 Years, With the Streets," opened on May 22nd at "PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO" on the 4th floor of Shibuya PARCO. The exhibition is organized by agnès b. Japan and PARCO.

This exhibition is an international touring exhibition that was originally held at the Musée de la Piscine in Roubaix, France, and has been reconfigured for its tour to Shibuya and Tainan, Taiwan. It focuses on street art and graffiti culture, which Agnès Troublé, the founder of the fashion brand "agnès b.", has supported for half a century, from observing the "city" since the opening of her first Paris store in 1976, to being one of the first to provide exhibition spaces for artists in 1984. It introduces Agnès Troublé's perspective on street culture, which has not been sufficiently discussed until now, as she calls herself a "stylist" rather than a "designer".

The exhibition will feature works by over 20 artists, including FUTURA 2000, a leading figure in the New York graffiti scene; Craig “KR” Costello, known as the founder of the art supply brand “KRINK”; contemporary artist Hiraku Suzuki; and actor and photographer Dennis Hopper. A collection of works that have colored the history of graffiti, drawn from agnès b.'s long-standing collection, will be on display. In addition to energetic works born from the streets, the exhibition will also feature archives of “artist T-shirts” created with artists from various eras, as well as previously unreleased materials, tracing the trajectory of how fashion and street art have resonated with each other.

To coincide with the exhibition, a special collaboration T-shirt (8,800 yen) by Craig “KR” Costello, agnès b., PARCO, and Tainan Art Museum, as well as an official exhibition catalog, will be available for purchase. The T-shirt will also be available at agnès b. Aoyama, Ginza, Shibuya, Kyoto BAL, and agnès b. Gallery Boutique.

As a related event, the agnès b. Gallery Boutique in Minami-Aoyama is hosting a solo exhibition by street artist TENGAone titled "Life is Beautiful" until May 24th. A solo exhibition by Craig Costello will also open from May 30th. Furthermore, the agnès b. Shibuya store will be hosting a residency program featuring young artists BIKO and KENNY.

Opening hours are 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM (closing at 6:00 PM on the last day, with last entry 30 minutes before closing). Admission is 500 yen. Until June 8th.
