"Love and Public Interest" Exhibition of Eiichi Shibusawa, the face of the new 10,000 yen bill: Opening at Daikanyama T-Site from July 2nd!

Commemorating the issuance of the new 10,000 yen note

To commemorate the issuance of the new 10,000 yen banknote featuring Eiichi Shibusawa’s portrait, a special exhibition titled “Love and Public Interest: The World Eiichi Shibusawa Envisioned” will be held at Daikanyama T-Site from July 2nd (Tuesday) to July 15th (Monday, national holiday), 2024.

Eiichi Shibusawa, known as the father of the Japanese economy, was a businessman who, armed with the ideas of the Analects and his ingenuity, established businesses necessary for the modernization of Japan, such as banks, railways, gas, and hotels. He is also known for his dedication to solving social issues such as welfare, education, and urban development.

Unique artists with unique sensibilities create collaborative works

This special exhibition is co-hosted by the Shibusawa Eiichi Memorial Foundation and Heralbony, which has a licensing agreement with intellectually disabled artists, and features original art by artist Rikuto Yoshida. Yoshida was born in 1998 and lives in Shiga Prefecture. Since 2017, he has been drawing at the Yamanami Studio, a welfare facility for people with disabilities, and creates works with his unique sensibility and free imagination.
The venue will exhibit ten portraits of Eiichi Shibusawa that Yoshida has altered, along with quotes from Shibusawa.
