SHIBUYA STREAM to host an outdoor cinema event: 29 films screened for free for 13 days during Golden Week.

Enjoy watching movies while lounging around outdoors!

The annual outdoor cinema event "SHIBUYA STREAM THEATER WEEK 2026" will be held for 13 days from April 28th ~ May 10th at Inaribashi Square and Grand Staircase in front of SHIBUYA STREAM.

Launched in the fall of 2022 and moved to a Golden Week event in 2023, the event is becoming a familiar sight in Shibuya, signaling the arrival of early summer. This year, a special open venue with artificial turf will be set up, allowing visitors to sit or lie down and enjoy watching movies in a relaxed, living room-like atmosphere.

This year's lineup features 29 films, with free screenings every day during the period. The selection ranges from recent hits to classic masterpieces and hidden gems. The diverse lineup includes the hit musical "Wicked," "The Sinners," which won four Academy Awards at the 98th Academy Awards, and the popular series "Cells at Work!" which personifies cells. There will also be classics like "Back to the Future" and "The Goonies," as well as films that can be enjoyed by families of all generations, such as "Summer Wars" and "In This Corner of the World."

Regular movie theaters are dark and enclosed spaces, making it difficult for children to sit quietly for extended periods. The open, airy environment of outdoor cinemas allows families to enjoy movies without worry, which is a unique appeal of outdoor cinemas.

Furthermore, from May 2nd to 6th, a booth for the authentic rice shochu "Hakutake KAORU" will be set up, selling canned highballs. Adults can enjoy movies with a drink in hand while feeling the early summer breeze.

Screenings are held one to three times a day, depending on the date. While Shibuya is expected to be crowded during the long weekend, this space along the Shibuya River is surprisingly a hidden gem. If you get tired from strolling around town or shopping, why not stop by for a break and enjoy some relaxing time?
